United Nations delegation visits Sias
Monday, July 25 – On the 24th of July, Sias International University was visited by a delegation of almost 50 members from the United Nations (UN), with representatives from 26 agencies including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit included a two-day tour of nearby historical and cultural sites such as the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, and the Shaolin Temple near Dengfeng.
Accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, the United Nations' delegation toured the Sias campus, visiting Sias' European Street (with its examples of student entrepreneurship), the CUBA training facility, golf driving range, the Chinese garden, as well as teaching facilities, all in a bid to learn about Sias' educational philosophy and campus culture.
A grand welcoming ceremony was then held at Sias with Dr. Shawn Chen, Deputy Party Secretary of Xinzheng City, Ma Zhifeng, and Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, along with the entire United Nations delegation. It involved the Sias military band, followed by a flag-raising ceremony. Members of the delegation delivered speeches and commended Sias on the educational philosophy, environment, and campus. In recognition of Sias' internationalization of education, the United Nations' delegation presented Sias with a UN flag. This was not only a confirmation of Sias' international status, but raises the bar for Sias' future.
The delegation had arrived in Henan province on the 22nd of July. Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, represented Sias at a welcoming ceremony held for the delegation, which included colorful dragon and lion dances, and symphony performances. On the 23rd and 24th, the delegation travelled to Luoyang, Kaifeng, and Zhengzhou airport, among other places. In Kaifeng, the Deputy Mayor of Kaifeng City, Sun Xiaohong, held a ceremony to welcome the delegation, with Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, in attendance. The delegation praised China's culture, contribution to the world, reform and opening up. They said that the study, research, and promotion of Chinese history and culture would benefit United Nations agencies and member nations. The visit of the UN delegation was to strengthen the organization's relations with China, and increase the knowledge of Chinese culture in UN agencies.
