Fire Safety and Evacuation Drill held at Sias
Thursday, November 16 – Sias International University organized and conducted a fire safety and evacuation drill on the 15th of November in the interests of accident prevention and to train teachers and students in fire safety, first aid, evacuation, and personal safety. The drill was carried out at Sias' Red Square and was overseen by Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, Xinzheng City Fire Brigade Captain, Qi Xiaodan, local Police Instructor, Wang Hongye, as well as leaders of the Logistics and Security departments at Sias.
Fei Hexiang delivered a speech and thanked the Xinzheng City Fire Brigade for their involvement and guidance. He said that the aim of the drill was to improve the awareness of teachers and students with regard to fire safety so that risks were minimized and the Sias campus would remain safe. He said that it was important that people learned group safety, especially with regard to hazards and evacuation.
Captain Qi Xiaodan of the Xinzheng City Fire Brigade said that November was designated as Fire Safety Month in China, and the active participation of students and teachers in fire safety training and methods would help create a safe campus at Sias.
At the drill, the Fire Brigade personnel explained different methods of evacuation, the use of fire extinguishers, and first aid. The firemen also showed participants the use of chainsaws, hydraulic shears for dismantling, fire retardant clothing, evacuation from heights, the use of water-cannons, escape from areas that have low visibility due to smoke, and trained students on the use of fire extinguishers.
