KII holds Sino-Foreign Academic Exchange Activities

Thursday, April 2 - Sias University's Kansas International Institute (KII) invited representatives from the SHU-UTS SILC Business School of Shanghai University for academic exchanges between Chinese and foreign teachers, including cooperative online teaching and the sharing of teaching experiences in the context of Sino-foreign cooperation. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Dean of the Kansas International Institute, Wang Huan. The Deputy Director of the Research Center at the SILC Business School at Shanghai University, Gu Haiyue, and the Academic English Program Coordinator, Anthony Levy, met with Sias teachers and participated in the exchange activities.

 

At the meeting, Wang Huan introduced the general situation and roles of Chinese and foreign teachers at the Kansas International Institute. Gu Haiyue delivered a report titled, "Discussions on the Future Trends of Chinese & Foreign Teachers' Teaching Cooperation and Online Teaching in the Context of Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools". The report introduced general details of the SHU-UTS SILC Business School at Shanghai University and the development process of learning Business English in detail, focusing on quality control, Chinese and foreign teachers' team cooperation and management, and emphasizing qualifications such as CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) and TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language). It also stressed on the importance of teaching certifications for Chinese and foreign teachers, student-centered teaching methods, and the provisions for new ideas for cooperation between Chinese and foreign teachers in the context of Sino-Foreign cooperation. Anthony Levy shared the problems encountered during the online teaching process and the strategies for coping with them. He also conducted an online Q&A session with teachers, as well as a video demonstration.

 

The academic exchanges take the cooperative teaching of Chinese and foreign teachers as the starting point, and share their experiences of online language teaching by putting forward problems for discussion to provide new ideas for both sides to explore in the context of Sino-Foreign cooperative education. The goal is also to build a cooperative platform for the two schools in teaching research and academic exchanges.

 

The Shanghai University - University of Technology Sydney (SHU-UTS) SILC Business School was founded in 1994. It is one of the most well-known Sino-Foreign cooperative institutions in China. The partner university, the University of Technology Sydney, is one of tbe top universities in Australia.
