2020 Graduation Ceremony
Wednesday, June 17 – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students of the graduating class of 2020 were not able to attend their graduation ceremony, as is the tradition at Sias University. As a result of the restrictions, Sias held a Cloud Graduation Ceremony for the graduating class of 2020 on the 17th of June. The Founder and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen; Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng; Executive President, Wang Jialin; Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng; Vice Presidents Zhao Yuxin, Xu Shengdao, and Wu Hua; and Prof. Guo Junfeng; attended the ceremony along with teachers, the heads of academic schools and professional colleges. The Vice President of Zhengzhou University, Prof. Zhang Qianhong, and the President of Fort Hays State University from (Kansas, USA), Dr. Tisa Mason, attended the graduation ceremony via a virtual video conference.
Dr. Chen delivered a speech after the singing of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China, and the Sias Song. He said that it was most special and unique graduation ceremony since the founding of Sias University. He encouraged students to have an attitude of learning throughout their lives, pursue their life goals, and contribute to their alma mater. He said that he hoped that the graduates would be brave when taking on responsibilities, not be afraid of difficulties, be ahead of the competition, and contribute to society and the nation.
Zhang Qianhong delivered a speech via a video conference, and expressed her congratulations to the graduating class of 2020 on behalf of Zhengzhou University. She praised the hard work of the students and said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, students showed their spirit and national pride through their commitment to the fight against the Coronavirus.
Dr. Tisa Mason also delivered a speech via a video conference. She congratulated the students and spoke of her appreciation of the long-term cooperation between Sias University and Fort Hays State University. She encouraged the students to keep a positive attitude, nurture modesty, and respect others.
Student Representative, Tian Yuxin, from the School of Music & Opera, and Zhixing Residential College, delivered a speech in which she spoke of her feelings for her alma mater. She said the 'East-meets-West; Knowledge meets Practice' motto of the university had been seen in the education and experience throughout her time at university. She said that Sias had provided a broad platform for students' development.
At the Graduation Ceremony, Wu Hua announced the top 3 scholarship winners of the 2020 Graduates' Professional Achievements, and the list of winners of the Third Scholarship for 2020 Graduates. Xu Shengdao announced the list of winners of the Second Scholarship for 2020 Graduates, while Zhao Yuxin announced the list of winners of the First Scholarship for 2020 Graduates. Li Huafeng announced Sias University's outstanding graduates with dual degrees (with Fort Hays State University), and Ma Jiansheng announced Sias' outstanding graduates from Zhengzhou University. Dr. Shawn Chen announced Sias' graduates who won scholarships to study abroad.
At the end of the ceremony, Wang Jialin announced the graduation of the class of 2020.
