Competitors from over 600 universities across China, including Peking University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Language & Culture University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Harbin University of Technology, Xiamen University, and Sichuan University, entered the re-evaluation stage of the competition. Over 1,000 projects competed online in the final stage.

Since 2008, it has been sponsored by the Ministry of Education in association with computer-related teaching committees. It is now one of the foremost national university competitions.
