2020/21 Undergraduate Freshmen Arrive at Sias
Monday, September 14 – Sias University welcomed the 2020/21 freshmen on the 12th and 13th of September. In strict accordance with the requirements for the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic, Sias set up reception points and check-in points at Zhengzhou railway station, the East Gate and North Gate of the campus, the Central Fountain Square in front of the Administration Building, and at the various residential colleges. All departments of the university coordinated the reception and orientation of the freshmen.
To ensure the orderly registration of freshmen, Sias held several orientation coordination meetings for deployment, coordination and the development of a thorough work plan. In keeping with its student-centered structure, Sias provided students with an efficient, meticulous and convenient service. University leaders visited and oversaw the orientation work several times, and also inspected the prevention and control measures for the Coronavirus pandemic to ensure a safe campus environment, dormitories and common areas.
On the day of freshmen registration, Sias leaders welcomed students and inspected the implementation of guidelines for the prevention and control measures for the Coronavirus pandemic, oversaw the registration of freshmen, and met with and spoke to freshmen, as well as teachers and students involved with welcoming freshmen. They also asked freshmen to abide by the rules and regulations with regard to the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic. They also advised them to keep in touch with their families and tell them about their living conditions and academics, and communicate with teachers about their studies.
Early in the morning, Sias welcome staff met with freshmen arriving at the Zhengzhou Railway Station. Staff was also present at both of Sias' main entrances - the East Gate, and the North Gate - as well as the Central Fountain Square and other welcoming posts across the campus. Security officers and volunteers had erected signboards to guide freshmen arriving at registration sites. Services provided at the Central Fountain Square (in front of the Administration Building) included enrollment consultation, financial aid consultation, educational and academic consultations, medical assistance, Communist Party and Communist Youth League services, and alumni exchanges. Staff and volunteers even helped incoming freshmen with their luggage, showcasing Sias' student-centered spirit.
According to the requirements of the prevention and control measures for the Coronavirus pandemic, the parents of freshmen were not allowed to enter the Sias campus with the students this year, however, the reception and guidance of Sias staff and volunteers aimed to make up for this situation when the freshmen entered the Sias University campus for the first time. The campus, dormitories, Student Activity Center, and international atmosphere were all set up to welcome the freshmen of the 2020/21 academic year.
A Multi-Cultural University
As a part of the annual welcoming of freshmen, various student associations put on performances. Dozens of varied performances took place by the Military Band, Flag Guard, Sias Art Troupe, Dance Troupe, AIDA Dance Troupe, the Sias Cheerleading Team, Etiquette Association, and Hip-Hop Club. The performers braved the heat to perform for the freshmen, displaying Sias' colorful campus culture.
The first semester of the 2020/21 academic year at Sias University has opened smoothly so far, and the university aims to continue with academic and safety lessons for the students. The priorities for the university remain its student management, logistical support, security, and a guarantee of an orderly and uninterrupted education and teaching based on scientific prevention and control measures for the Coronavirus pandemic.
