2021 Graduates’ Job Fair
Monday, November 16 – Sias University held a Campus Recruitment Fair for the graduating class of 2021 on the 14th of November in the CUBA Training Facility. The Fair was held to provide a platform to meet the needs of students and enterprises, and to implement the directives of Xi Jinping with regard to the employment of university students.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Director of the Zhengzhou Talent Exchange Center, Zhang Huaicang, the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Sias Executive President, Wang Jialin, Vice President, Xu Shengdao, and other university leaders including the heads of the Academic Affairs Office, the Employment & Entrepreneurship Office, the Security Office, the Communist Party Committee, the heads of all the residential colleges, and educational tutors.
Dr. Chen thanked the Zhengzhou Talent Exchange Center for its support to Sias' employment work. He said that Sias had prioritized the employment of its graduating students and their awareness and ability towards innovation and entrepreneurship. Sias had focused on training students with vocational skills to increase their opportunities in the employment market. He said that students were being trained to have good professional ethics and solid application skills. He said that he hoped that all the employers present would focus on practical needs and long-term development. He encouraged students to understand the employment market, particularly in context of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on the global economy. He said that they should grasp opportunities, master necessary skills, and prepare a solid foundation for themselves when entering their professional careers.
With regard to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on the employment of university graduates in China, Dr. Chen said that considering the national requirements for stable employment and employment protection, colleges and universities should prioritize employment for their graduates by providing accurate employment guidance. He said that the promotion of employment and entrepreneurship was related to people's livelihood, and was also important for accelerating the growth of innovation across the nation. Colleges and universities, he continued, should be 'matchmakers' for employers and graduates.
The Personnel Director of Fuchuan Development Group, Yuan Wei, a graduate of Sias from the class of 2011, spoke of her learning experiences and life at Sias. She said that her first job was found through an on-campus recruitment fair in November, 2010. She spoke about her job and her employers, and encouraged graduates to seek jobs earnestly. She said that her company would create jobs for graduates while safeguarding and protecting the rights of students.
Student Representative of the 2021 graduating class, Han Sen, spoke about his growth and learning experiences during his time at university. He said that Sias' educational philosophy had helped students increase their knowledge, broaden their horizons, tap their abilities, train them to be analytical, and make them both competent and competitive. He said that he hoped that students would use the Job Fair as a stepping stone towards their dreams.
During the Job Fair, Sias leaders met with recruiters and students to gauge their expectations, intentions, and doubts. They encouraged students to have a rational and realistic view of their career choices, make long-term plans, and communicate clearly with potential employers to understand the demands and requirements of jobs.
At the venue, recruiters and potential employers said that they hoped to deepen cooperation and contact with Sias to carry out university-enterprise cooperation, establish bases for internship and employment, and participate in club activities. Recruiters held discussions with students with both sides getting a clearer picture of the expectations of the other.
According to statistics provided by Sias' Employment & Entrepreneurship Department, over 500 companies were represented at the Job Fair, with over 12,000 jobs on offer. Over 8,500 graduates sent in their résumés to the recruiters.
Sias University will continue to hold small-scale job fairs every Wednesday, and will also organize online recruitment meetings and conferences to help provide a variety of avenues for students to improve their chances for employment.
