The freshmen of the 2020/21 academic year began their military training at the Sias Track & Field Stadium on September 14. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Executive President, Wang Jialin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, and Vice Presidents, Zhao Yuxin, Xu Shengdao, and Wu Hua were present at the ceremony along with the leading group and military training instructors for the 2020 freshmen. The Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office and Executive Vice President of the General Office of the Residential Colleges, Bai Meng, presided over the proceedings.

After the singing of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China by the freshmen, Dr. Shawn Chen delivered the welcoming speech. He thanked the military training instructors for their work and welcomed the freshmen of the 2020/21 academic year. He put forward 3 requirements from them:

- First, after overcoming the Coronavirus pandemic, students should continue to learn to deal with difficulties and grow in the face of adversity;

- Second, make full use of the university's resources to grow into the best version of themselves;

- Third, focus on their academics and career, and contribute to society.

Following this, Xu Shengdao read out the names of the military training instructors for the freshmen of the 2020/21 academic year.

Ma Jiansheng then spoke of the importance of the military training for freshmen as a part of Chinese law from the aspect of military service, national defense, and education. He said that it was important that all universities implement the educational policies of the Communist Party of China. He put forward requirements: First, students should do their best in the military training; Second, students should understand the importance of safety and order in military training; Third, students should fulfill their responsibilities with regard to service. He said that he hoped that the freshmen would maintain high standards in their military training.

Li Huafeng then presented the flag to the leader of the Military Training Corps.

The Chief of Staff of the Military Training Corps pointed out the importance of the military training as part of the implementation of policies and principles of the Communist Party of China, and Xi Jinping's Socialist Ideology with Chinese Characteristics. He said that it was important to create a reserve force and to build discipline among students for their education and so that they could learn to deal with all kinds of challenges. He said that he hoped that through the military training students would learn to develop their morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and work ethic.

The Representative of the Instructors said that all the instructors would work hard towards the successful military training for Sias' freshmen of the 2019/2020 academic year. He said that all the instructors would comply with the regulations for the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic, and conduct a high-quality training with self-discipline in accordance with all the rules.

The Freshman Representative also delivered a speech and said that the freshmen would be disciplined and would train hard in addition to abiding by the requirements for the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic. She said that the freshmen would also train hard and remember the lessons learned from military training in their academic lives and careers.

After the ceremony, the Sias leaders visited different sites for military training and met with the training instructors and freshmen. They inquired about the training in detail and had exchanges with the instructors to gauge the mental and physical condition of the students.
