April 16, 2025 Editor:Si Jiaxuan

To further internationalize the campus and foster cross-cultural interaction among students, Sias Student Affairs Office, Sias Youth League Committee, and HuanYu Residential College jointly hosted the "Spring Rendezvous" English Corner event at the Sculpture Park on the afternoon of April 11. Attendees included Professor Lucy Lu, Provost and Vice President of Sias University; Liu Dongwei, Deputy Party Secretary of HuanYu Residential College; as well as representatives from various colleges, international faculty, exchange students, and Chinese students, all gathering for a spring celebration of language and culture.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Liu Dongwei, who emphasized that "language is the key to the world." He encouraged students to use communication as a bridge to broaden their horizons through "mutual cultural appreciation and shared ideas." Following this, Alex, a student from Eton College, shared his inspiring journey of learning Chinese across three continents, titled "Swimming Against the Current to Master Mandarin."

In an impromptu speech, Professor Lucy Lu recounted her overseas study experiences in English, highlighting that "the essence of international education lies in sincere face-to-face dialogue." She urged students to "embrace differences with an open mind and convey cultural warmth through language," a message that resonated deeply and drew enthusiastic applause.

The event featured engaging interactive activities such as UNO card games, arrow-throwing competitions, live music performances, and friendship bracelet crafting, all of which attracted enthusiastic participation. Chinese and international students collaborated to complete tasks, breaking down language barriers in a relaxed atmosphere. A self-service fruit and beverage station added a cozy touch to the exchanges, while participants immortalized their cross-border friendships by posing for photos with handmade bracelets.

By using language as a medium and culture as a bond, this English Corner event created an open and inclusive platform for students, embodying the spirit of "appreciating one’s own beauty and that of others, achieving harmony without uniformity." Moving forward, HuanYu Residential College will continue to refine such initiatives, nurturing globally minded and culturally confident young talents, while injecting vitality into a diverse and symbiotic campus ecosystem.
