World Academy for the Future of Women

The World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW) is an active leadership program focused on developing young women for leadership roles that will accelerate women’s leadership worldwide.

Students apply, are interviewed, and are accepted for membership based on their commitment to being a leader for social justice, gender equality, and human dignity. They agree to attend a minimum of 8-10 hours of World Academy coursework each week. This includes seminars, labs, coaching, Open Fora, and Academy Projects that address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The World Academy requirements are in addition to their university academic classwork. There is no fee to attend the World Academy and no university credit is given. Founded at Sias University in 2009, the World Academy for the Future of Women grew from a one-year program for 100 women to a multi-level three-year program for women, and a Men’s Academy for the Future of Women - a program requested by male students which now replicates the women’s program and prepares men to support the advancement of women.

The World Academy Alumni in Action was organized to enable those who complete the World Academy program to continue to maintain relationships and support the World Academy through their contributive networks.
