First Batch of Hybrid Teaching Workshop completed

April 4, 2019

Thursday, April 4 - The first batch of the new Hybrid Teaching Workshop at Sias University finished their course earlier this week. In order to show the effects of classroom reform, the Academic Affairs Department had organized 3 batches of teachers for training that is scheduled to last for 3 weeks. On the afternoon of the 3rd of April, the first demonstrations were conducted in the Library. Sias President, Chen Sikun, and the heads of certain residential colleges were present.

Before the practical demonstrations began, Chen Sikun awarded an Honorary Certificate of Appointment to Prof. Li Meng, of the Luoyang Institute of Technology, for his work in academic reform at Sias University. DUring the course of the workshops, Prof. Li Meng had instructed teachers on methods of ice-breaking in classrooms, setting diversified classroom goals, and goal-oriented curriculum evaluation, all of which play an important role in innovative teaching methods and improving the teaching quality.

After this, 9 teachers from the 8 Residential Colleges showed the Online Open Courses that they had created across different majors, disciplines, and teaching methods.

The practical classroom demonstrations adopted two forms of communication:
- on-site observation
- live network broadcasting

This is one of the ways in which Sias hopes to reform its curriculum in the future, and not just focus on the benefits for the participating teachers.

The second batch of the Hybrid Teaching Workshop will begin on the 10th of April.
