Thursday, May 23 - On the 22nd of May, Sias University hosted "The Wisdom of Covey", a Q&A session and a speech by the world-renowned educator, and Executive Vice President of Global Partnerships, Sean Covey. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, presided over the event. The General Manager and Chief Consultant at Franklin Covey International Department in China, Zhang Xiaohu, was the translator. Teachers and student representatives of Sias, as well as teachers from the Sias Primary School, Kindergarten, and family members in children and adolescent education, were present for the event.
Dr. Shawn Chen presented Sean Covey with an Honorary Letter of Appointment, and a souvenir to thank him for his contribution toward education at Sias.
Dr. Chen and Mr. Covey held exchanges on the theme of leadership. Sean Covey said leadership was the ability to clearly recognize the value and potential in oneself and others. He said that although different countries have different cultures and customs, there are many similarities in education and capacity-building. The books, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" and "7 Habits of Happy Kids", among his many best-selling works not only inherit his father's (Stephen Covey) ideas, but also hope to help children and teenagers develop good learning and living habits, nurture innovative thinking, learn self-management, increase confidence, learn how to be positive and optimistic, take responsibility and not be afraid to face difficult challenges, all by sharing successful experiences. The goal is to realize the value of life through balanced development.
Dr. Chen said that Sean Covey's educational philosophy was also advocated by Sias University. Sias adheres to the concept of the integration of Chinese and Western education, advocates holistic education, focuses on the nurturing of students' leadership abilities, international vision, and innovative spirit. It also actively provides students with many opportunities and platforms to make them grow into comprehensive internationalized talents who can meet the needs of society.
