Sias Inaugurates World Skills Competition Training Base

Wednesday, June 5 - In preparation for the 46th World Skills Competition in 2021, the Zhengzhou Human Resources and Security Bureau organized and set up a Zhengzhou Skills Competition Training Base. Sias University was awarded the Zhengzhou Training Base for Technical Projects in Graphic Design for the World Skills Competition.


On the 4th of June, Sias University held the inauguration ceremony of the Zhengzhou Training Base, a graphic design technology project for the 46th World Skills Competition. The chief guests included the Director of the Zhengzhou Public Training Service Center for High-skilled Talents, Zhang Bingjun; the President of the Henan Institute of Arts & Crafts, and General Manager of the Zhengzhou World Skills Championship Base, Liu Zhijun; the Executive Chairman of the Root Wood Carving Arts Committee at the Henan Institute of Arts & Crafts, Zhou Wenlong; the Deputy Secretary-General of the Art Design Committee at the Henan Institute of Arts & Crafts, Liu Zhijuan; and the Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias University, Dr. Shawn Chen. The Dean of the School of Art & Design, Guo Xinsheng, presided over the inauguration.


Gao Bingjun spoke about the World Skills Competition and the achievements made in previous competitions by China. He said that the competition was important to China, and spoke of the outstanding contributions of Sias to Henan in the field of graphic design. He said that he hoped that Sias would be able to produce more talent to represent Henan and China in such competitions.


Liu Zhijun said that Sias had been selected by the Henan Institute of Arts & Crafts as a training base for graphic design technology projects after a strict screening process. He said that he believed that Sias' high-quality resources, excellent teachers and diligent students would make achievements in the field and in the World Skills Competition.


After this, Gao Bingjun and Dr. Shawn Chen jointly opened the Zhengzhou Training Base for Technical Projects in Graphic Design for the 46th World Skills Competition.


Dr. Chen thanked the Zhengzhou Human Resources and Security Bureau, as well as the Organizing Committee, for their trust in Sias. He said that Sias would take the World Skills Competition as an opportunity to use its resources and formulate a practical program to focus and train for the competition.


The World Skills Competition is the biggest and most influential professional skills competition in the world so far. The competitive level is at the most advanced level of professional skill development and is an important platform for members of the World Skills Organization to display and exchange professional skills. World Skills International (WSI) organizes the World Skills Competition every two years and has successfully held 44 competitions so far.


At the 44th World Skills Competition in October 2017, held in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, 52 Chinese participants won 15 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 8 bronze medals, and 12 prizes, across 47 events. This was the best result for China since it first entered the competition. Shanghai was awarded the right to host the 46th World Skills Competition in 2021.


With the establishment of the Zhengzhou Training Base for Graphic Design Technology Projects for the World Skills Competition, competitors from a wide range of colleges and universities will come to study and train at Sias. At the same time, it will provide an improved learning and communication platform for teachers and students of Sias. It gives Sias continued prominence in Henan and enables it to continue to contribute to the economic and social development of the province.
