School of Physical Education

 

The School of Physical Education at Sias University was founded in 2005 and was formerly known as the Department of Physical Education. It was renamed and restructured in August 2009. It has 3 departments: the Department of Physical Education, the Ministry of Public Sports, and the High-Level Sports Management Center. It also has the Sports Research & Innovation Center and the School Sports Research Center. It has 8 teaching and research departments, 7 laboratories, a library, an indoor golf driving range, and is fully equipped for teaching human anatomy, human physiology, sports healthcare, massage, sports psychology, and measurement and evaluation. At present, there are academic majors for Physical Education, Social Sports Guidance and Management, Physical Education (Alternate), and Golf. There is a joint training program for a master's degree in Physical Education with Zhengzhou University.

 

There are 91 teachers, 84 of whom are full-time teachers. They include 12 professors and 44 associate professors. There are 60 teachers with master's or doctorate degrees, accounting for 72% of the full-time teachers. There are also 2 international-level judges, 8 national-level judges, and 17 provincial-level judges. Among the current teachers, there are 2 Zeng Xianzi Education Award winners, 3 provincial-level 'Excellent Teachers', 1 provincial-level 'Famous Teacher', 2 'Young & Middle-Aged Excellent Backbone [Leaders] Teachers', 2 provincial-level Academic and Technological Leaders, and 1 provincial-level 'Civilized' teacher.

 

The School of Physical Education began to enroll students for the Physical Education major in 2005, for the Golf major in 2012, for the Physical Education (Alternate) major in 2014, for the Social Sports Guidance and Management major in 2016, and for the joint master's degree program with Zhengzhou University in 2017.

 

The school has also increased the number of its international exchanges and has brought in Golf majors from Keiser University [Florida, U.S.A.] and has cooperative agreements with Portsmouth University [the U.K.], Springfield College [Massachusetts, U.S.A.], and the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism (SCOLIPE).

 

With regard to competitive sports, the school has both hosted and won many provincial and national competitions. Students from the School of Physical Education have represented the province of Henan several times. In the past 5 years, students from the School of Physical Education have won 216 medals in sports competitions at the provincial and national levels, including 100 gold medals, 70 silver medals, and 46 bronze medals. The main sports teams at the school are Basketball, Dragon & Lion Dance, Athletics, and Cheerleading. Lü Huihui, a graduate of Sias' School of Physical Education, is the Asian record holder for the women's javelin throw. The Sias Cheerleading Team was selected to participate in the opening ceremony of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

 

The school has a wide range of facilities that include the CUBA Training Facility, the Basketball Arena, Jordan Basketball Hall, 12 wood-floor basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool, indoor running track, badminton courts, tennis courts, table tennis facilities, gyms, aerobics hall, cheerleading halls, martial arts halls, taekwondo hall, and volleyball courts. There are 21 indoor golf driving ranges with a total area of 34,500 square meters. The Sias Stadium (Track & Field Stadium), basketball courts, volleyball courts, a football field, and other outdoor sporting areas add up to over 65,000 square meters.

 

The School of Physical Education follows Sias' East-meets-West educational philosophy and aims to train students with a practical ability and rigorous scholarship, in accordance with their aptitude. It seeks to nurture international sports talent through modern educational concepts and innovation.
