Sias School of Foreign Languages, founded in August, 2007, is a professional academic school for the teaching of foreign languages and academic research, based on the former Department of Foreign Languages. At present, the school has a Department of Business English, Department of Translation, Department of Japanese, and Department of College English Teaching. There are 4 majors - Business English, English Translation, English Education, and Business Japanese. Courses are available in four languages - English, Japanese, French, and German.
The English Language & Literature program was included in the 8th batch of 'Key Disciplines' in the Province of Henan, and it is the only provincial-level English Language & Literature program among all private colleges and universities in Henan. The Translation major is listed as a key training discipline. Since 2012, the English major program in cooperation with Zhengzhou University has jointly recruited and trained postgraduates with Master's Degrees. In 2015, it was approved as a 'Brand Major' among private colleges and universities in Henan. In 2019, it was approved as a 'Funded Project' for Academic Course Creation in colleges and universities in Henan. It ranked 12th in the second batch of the 44 colleges and universities in Henan and 1st among private colleges and universities. In 2020, it was approved as a first-class undergraduate major in Henan. The Japanese major ranked 5th in the second batch of the 21 universities in Henan, and 1st among private colleges and universities.
The School of Foreign Languages has a wide range of educational resources and a well-educated and well-structured team of Chinese and foreign teachers. There are 176 full-time teachers including 148 Chinese teachers and 28 foreign teachers. Among the Chinese teachers, there are 2 professors and 50 associate professors, accounting for 35.14% of the total number. Among the full-time teachers, there are 2 teachers with Doctoral degrees (3 foreign PhDs), 129 teachers with Master's degrees (14 foreign Master's degrees), and 60 Chinese teachers with international education backgrounds. The advantages and integration of Chinese and foreign cultures and the educational resources are focused on broadening students' horizons, and nurturing an international consciousness, innovative spirit, and practical ability. Students are highly competitive in the Postgraduate Entrance Examination and their employment rate is high, highlighting the unique international education at the School of Foreign Languages.
The School of Foreign Languages prioritizes teaching and research. From 2020 to 2024, the employment rate for graduates of the School of Foreign Languages has remained over 90%, ranking first in the country. Graduates are engaged in business, translation, foreign affairs, and education, among many other fields.
