Sias School of Art and Design, established in 2003 as a secondary college under Sias University, currently serves as a council member of China Industrial Design Association, Henan Animation Industry Association, Asia-Pacific Design Alliance, and China Building Decoration Association, enjoying considerable reputation both nationally and provincially. It offers four undergraduate programs: Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, Product Design, and Digital Media Arts, with an enrollment of 1,357 students as of December, 2024.
The school currently has: 1 provincial-level brand specialty for private universities, 1 provincial comprehensive reform pilot program, 1 provincial first-class undergraduate course, 1 provincial specialty-innovation integrated characteristic demonstration course, 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching projects, 1 university-level key discipline, 2 university-level online open courses, 3 university-level online-offline hybrid first-class courses, 2 university-level key courses, and 2 university-level curriculum ideological and political demonstration courses.
With a strong faculty team of 52 full-time teachers and 6 adjunct teachers, including 6 professors, 18 associate professors, 1 other deputy senior professional, 13 lecturers, 8 assistant lecturers, and 12 unranked teachers, the school maintains an overall student-faculty ratio of 24.2:1. Many faculty members have overseas study experience. The teachers have demonstrated outstanding research capabilities, winning over 300 awards in national, provincial, and departmental competitions in recent years, leading or participating in more than 120 research projects at or above departmental level, publishing over 50 monographs and textbooks, and contributing more than 40 core journal papers, several of which are included in CSSCI. The faculty's design capabilities and instructional expertise are evidenced by their medal and trophy designs being adopted for the 11th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities in 2019, student-designed mascots reaching the top ten in the Shanghai World Expo global competition, and student-designed logos being adopted by Zhengzhou Municipal Government for citizen cards.
The School of Art and Design has established an Art Design Innovation Practice Training Center, equipped with 415 instruments valued at 3.75 million yuan, featuring 10 comprehensive laboratories and 21 training rooms covering 2,558 square meters. Currently, 10 discipline-specific laboratories are in operation: Product Digital Design and Prototyping Lab, Printing Process MAC Lab, Special Effects Imaging Lab, 2D Creative Design Lab, 3D Dynamic Design Lab, Comprehensive Art Design Lab, Digital Media Arts Lab, Model Design and Fabrication Lab, Environmental Design Materials and Model Making Lab, and Cultural Creative Industry Innovation Service Design Cluster Lab. All laboratories meet the university's basic requirements for experimental teaching according to scientific arrangements.
The "Dual Certification" talent cultivation model has shown initial success. Leveraging disciplinary characteristics, the school collaborates with Henan Arts and Crafts Society to build a specialized platform for applied design talent development, implementing the "Bachelor's Degree + Professional Arts and Crafts Certification" system to establish a solid foundation for student employment and entrepreneurship.
Currently, the School of Art and Design is vigorously reforming and meticulously developing in three key areas - teaching, research, and practice - aiming to become a nationally leading, first-class design institution.
