Zhiyuan Residential College

Established in August, 2017, Zhiyuan Residential College (ZYRC) is one of the second batch of residential colleges in Sias University. Students in ZYRC come from 14 academic schools across the university, representing a deep integration of different levels, majors, and disciplines. They are distributed in the Student Apartments 8, 9, and 11 in the West District.

The name "Zhiyuan" originates from Zhuge Liang's An Admonition to My Son (a chancellor of the state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period): "This is a way of life for a man of virtue: to cultivate his character by keeping a peaceful mind, and nourish his morality by a frugal living. Only freedom from vanity can show one's lofty goal of life; and only peace of mind can help him to achieve something really lasting." The college is named "Zhiyuan," which expresses the expectation of its students to set lofty ambitions and embrace grand aspirations.

ZYRC adheres to the motto of "Diligent Study and Reflective Thinking, Steadfast Pursuit of Excellence," centers on the theme of "Cultivating Students' Ability for Continuous and Deepened Learning," aims to "Cultivate Morality and Foster Talents," and is on a mission to "Guide students to learn consciously and proactively, fostering habits of good learning and diligent thinking, nurturing lifelong learners who enrich their minds, cultivate their characters, and enhance their talents through learning." Its vision is to establish a "learning-oriented college where everyone learns, everywhere, and anytime."

Supported by a "five-in-one" mentor system encompassing educational mentors, life mentors, peer mentors, external mentors, and research mentors, and based on the thematic and distinctive curriculum system of “One College, One Brand,” ZYRC leverages "Three Types of Education for Holistic Growth," thematic educational activities as carriers, and student club activities as driving forces to facilitate student growth and success.

ZYRC deeply integrates its Party building theme with the college's themes, incorporating the theme of "Studying Xi's Thoughts" into the "Learning" theme to form a "Studying Xi's Thoughts + Learning" matrix, thereby enhancing political standing, enriching ideological content, and expanding learning horizons. The college's Party General Branch has been recognized as a "Model Unit for Party Building Work," "Advanced Primary Party Organization," and "Advanced Learning-Oriented Party Organization" within Sias University. The Second Student Party Branch of the college was honored as the "First Batch of Provincial Model Party Branches in Colleges and Universities in Henan Province" in 2021, designated as a cultivation unit for the third batch of National Model Party Branches for Party Building Work in the New Era in 2022, and qualified upon acceptance in 2024.

Adhering to Siass educational principle of "Student-centered," the college continually upgrades its community hardware facilities, focuses on enhancing environment-based education, and vigorously promotes the construction of a "One-stop" Student Community Service Center integrated management model. It strives to create a modern community educational environment that "uplifts people with culture, shapes people with culture, and educates people with culture."

ZYRC provides specialized spaces for various functions, integrating theoretical learning, psychological counseling, scholarships, work-study assistance, loans, career planning, innovation and entrepreneurship education, club activities, and life services into the student community. It actively fosters a 15-minute student community service and living circle.

Facilities such as graduate study rooms, ZYRC reading room, Party and League activity rooms, baking rooms, laundromats, table tennis rooms, and multi-functional conference halls allow students to learn in a relaxed, comfortable, and joyful atmosphere, while growing within a community characterized by co-construction, co-governance, and sharing.

ZYRC boasts eight learning centers, including the Party Building Theory Learning Center, Learning Enhancement Research Center, Club Activity Center, Undergraduate Research Center, English Learning Center, Graduate Exam Tutoring Center, Teacher-Student Cultural Activity Exchange Center, and Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance Center. It has also established clubs focusing on new media, Red Cross volunteer services, baking club, English-learning club, etiquette club and more, enriching students' extracurricular lives and contributing to happy, fulfilling, and rewarding college experiences.
