Homecoming

Homecoming is an American tradition in colleges and universities at which graduating students bid farewell to their Alma Mater. It is a time of reflection and looking forward to the future. Sias University has adopted this tradition as a part of its internationalized campus culture that gives students a unique holistic education and unrivaled opportunities for extra-curricular activities.

Sias’ homecoming brings together a wide range of Chinese and foreign guests, university leaders, faculty, alumni, students, and their parents. It includes a series of events such as the Homecoming Parade, celebratory performances, cultural shows, academic lectures, exhibitions, fora, competitions, awards ceremonies, the annual Alumni Summit, a ‘Birdman’ competition, and a fluorescent night run.

The Homecoming Parade begins with floats, costumes, and performances put together by students, student associations, and foreign faculty members. The parade, which goes down the main road of the campus, showcases a wide range of interests, cultures, designs, and creativity among those who take part. A frequent theme is the integration of Chinese and Western cultures.

In the afternoon, there are several activities for students such as a basketball invitational, a debate contest, and the ‘Birdman’ contest, culminating in the evening’s ‘Fluorescent Run.’

Every year, Sias’ Homecoming invites both domestic and foreign experts and scholars who share their research and insights on academia and life, inspiring the graduating students and broadening their horizons.

The Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, meets with members of the Parents’ Association to discuss the running of Sias and its development plans. He also meets with the Sias Alumni Association at the annual summit.

In 2019, Homecoming Day was held alongside the closing ceremony of the 2nd Joint AUAP-IAUP International Conference and the university’s 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

Sias' Homecoming Day festivities have evolved over the years, and have steadily increased their relevance and impact. It has brought students and parents together on campus and showed Sias' course of development. The Homecoming Day festivities and performances give a glimpse into Sias' implementation of the combination of Eastern and Western forms of comprehensive education.
