Track & Field Games

    Sias University’s annual (Spring) Track & Field Games involve students and faculty members. It is an extravaganza of color that has grown in its scale and quality every year along with the advancement of training facilities at the university. The two-day event primarily involves athletics but also features games such as Tug-of-War.


    The opening ceremony begins with a parade by the Sias Military Marching Band. This is followed by the parade of contestants that involves students and employees of Sias in their respective groups, including student associations, residential colleges, academic schools, the World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW), the Sias Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team, referees, the foreign faculty, the Sias Alumni Association, and the logistics department.


    The Founder, and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen, then lights the torch symbolizing the Olympic spirit, following which the Track & Field Games are officially open. The athletes' representative and the referees' representative then lead the two groups in the swearing of an oath for fairness and sportsmanship. Participants at the Track & Field Games are encouraged to carry the spirit of the Olympics and follow and respect the rules, the referees' judgments, and yet maintain their competitive edge.


    The opening ceremony continues with large-scale performances at the Track & Field Stadium as part of the finale of the opening ceremony. The performances involve several graphic tifo displays followed by a powered paragliding show.


    The Track & Field Games are an important part of Sias culture and it is hoped that it instills a variety of qualities in the participants including athleticism, positiveness, fairness, team spirit, and a fighting spirit as well. After two days of intense competition, the Closing Ceremony is held at the same venue.


    Development through sports is a crucial part of the National Education Policy and is an important part of the "Spiritual Civilization" at universities and schools. Sport teaches certain ideals, skills, and responsibilities that will serve and enhance the nation in the future. The development of sports is considered crucial for China as a nation on the global stage.


    Since its founding, physical education has been an important part of the Sias’ tradition. With the rapid development of sports and physical education at the national level, Sias has focused on improving its sports facilities through reform and education.
