Henan Division of 22nd National English Debate Competition held at Sias

Sias University hosted the Henan Division of the "Foreign Research Association Cup", the 22nd National College English Debate Competition, on March 16. The event was sponsored by the Sias English Debate Team as well as the Communist Youth League. Teams from colleges and universities across Henan took part in the competition.


Special guests included Zhu Shangzhen from Henan University, Guan Shanshan and Gao Yu from the School of Foreign Languages at Henan Agricultural University, and Zhang Yanping from the Communist League of Henan University. The judges for the competition were Claudia Yim, John Cossey, Brian Funke, and Zhu Shangzhen. Claudia Yim chaired the competition.


The competition was divided into two rounds and used the British Parliamentary System. Teams were required to present opening and summary statements. After several rounds through the day, the team from Henan Agricultural University won the first prize based on its knowledge, experience, and strong English ability. The team from Sias University finished second, with the teams from Henan University and the Henan University of Technology finishing third and fourth respectively.


After the competition, Zhu Shangzhen spoke about the state of English debate competitions in Henan and said that he hoped that more debate teams would take part in competitions to improve their abilities.


The "Foreign Research Association Cup", was set up to provide a platform for English debaters in colleges and universities to improve their debating skills, confidence, communication skills, and experience. The Henan Division of the 22nd National College English Debate Competition has helped students from colleges and universities across the province with exposure, English skills, and development.
