The 7th High Table Banquet

Sias International University held its 7th annual High Table Banquet on November 2 in the Banquet Hall of the Library. The High Table Banquet was introduced by the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, to expose students to international dining etiquette, to increase their competence with regard to international communication, and prepare them for their professional lives after graduation.


A number of international guests were present at the Banquet, including delegations from California Baptist University, the University of Arizona, and Fort Hays State University in the USA; I-Shou University, Providence University, and Nanhua University in Taiwan;theGlobal Network for Sustainable Development (GNSD),Daffodil International University in Bangladesh, Airlangga University in Indonesia, and a Cambodian Chinese Language Delegation. Delegations from the Jilin provincial government, the Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Henan, the Henan Department of Education, and the Xinzheng People's Hospital were also present, as were Sias leaders, heads of departments, and outstanding alumni. The Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Yue Junliang, presided over the Banquet.


After the red carpet entry, the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, introduced the guests and delivered a speech. He welcomed the guests and said that he hoped that through this Banquet, students would get an insight into Western culture, thereby broadening their horizons and encouraging them to see things from a different perspective. The Banquet would also enhance their capabilities of interacting with different strata of society.


The Deputy Director of the Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Henan, Guo Junfeng, spoke of Sias' outstanding contributions to the development of education in Henan, as well its contributions to the economic and social development of the region in the past 20 years.


The Vice President for Global Initiatives at California Baptist University, Dr. Larry Linamen, said that the High Table Banquet was a deeply meaningful event and a great opportunity for students to learn about the cultures and customs of different countries. He said that he hoped that students would make use of these opportunities with a positive attitude.


Later, the Director of the School of Music at Arizona State University, Dr. Edward Reid, and Dr. Shawn Chen delivered the toast at the Banquet.
