Freshmen from the 2018/19 academic year arrived at Sias International University from August 31 to September 2.
Coordination of Arrangements for the new semester
In order to ensure a smooth enrollment for the new students, Sias convened a new committee for the arrival of the freshmen. Sias leaders visited sites across the campus that were designated for freshmen, including enrollment centers and dormitories, as well as the security measures for students.
The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen, along with other university leaders, Ma Jiansheng, Chen Sikun, Wang Jialin, Li Huafeng, Wu Hua, and Guo Xuede, met with new students and their parents and welcomed them to Sias.
Service and Social Responsibility
Thousands of students poured into the Sias campus in a stream of cars and were greeted by student volunteers with flags and signs providing directions and welcoming them to Sias. Students outside the administration building in the Central Fountain Square provided freshmen and their families with enrollment assistance. There were also stalls that provided financial assistance counseling, business counseling, medical assistance, Communist Party and Youth League services, alumni exchanges, and rest areas. Students and their parents were also given campus tours.
Academic Schools & Residential College Orientation
This is the first academic year that Sias has implemented its residential college system. Specifically assigned t-shirts in designated colors were issued to students from the various residential colleges so that incoming freshmen would be able to be registered in the correct areas easily, and feel a sense of belonging to their residential colleges. The various academic schools also set up consultation desks where professors, teachers, and academic tutors answered questions with regard to the syllabus and career options.
Performances
At the Central Fountain Square, which was the main reception area, a number of student associations put on performances for the freshmen and their parents. Initially, the Sias Marching Band along with the Honor Guard held the stage with a flag-raising ceremony. This was followed by the Sias cheerleaders, roller skating club, traditional dance clubs, along with over a dozen literary and artistic performances.
Communication between Families & School Education
The annual "New Parents' Meeting" was held in the administration building. Dr. Shawn Chen spoke on behalf of the university and welcomed the new students and their parents. He spoke about Sias' development, unique characteristics, educational philosophy, and high-quality resources. He encouraged the parents to actively engage in their children's education, thereby aiding the universities development. He also invited all the parents to attend the 20th anniversary celebrations. The response from parents was enthusiastic. They interacted with Sias leaders and spoke of their appreciation for Sias' innovative brand of education that was combined with a diverse campus culture.
Technology Integration
For the first time, freshmen were given real-time data as they arrived at the university. Media platforms such as WeChat and Weibo were used to broadcast live aerial footage from drones. In the Basketball Arena, students were given their identity cards that could be used for payments in restaurants across the Sias campus.
