Sias International University hosted Henan Province's 13th Badminton Championships from July 8 to 14. The championships were organized by the Henan Department of Education and the Henan Sports Bureau and sponsored by the Badminton Association of Henan Students Sports Federation. It was held at Sias' Basketball Arena.

The chief guests at the opening ceremony were the Chairman of the Henan Students Sports Federation, and Party Secretary of the Zhengzhou Light Industry University, Yu Hailuo; the Chairman of the Badminton Association of the Henan Students Sports Federation, and Party Secretary of the Zhongyuan University of Technology, Cui Shizhong, and the Vice-Chairman of the Badminton Association of the Henan Students Sports Federation, and Party Secretary of the North China University of Water Conservancy & Hydropower, Wang Qingyi. Sias was represented at the opening ceremony by the Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Sias President Chen Sikun, Deputy Party Secretary Li Huafeng, Dean of the School of Physical Education, He Zuxin, Party Committee representative, Ye Xinjiang, General Party Branch Secretary, Lang Yadong, and the Director of the Administrative Office, Ding Gongci.

Party Secretary Ma Jiansheng opened the proceedings and welcomed the guests that included party secretaries, university presidents, coaches, referees, and athletes. He spoke about Sias' growth and development in the past 20 years with regard to its educational philosophy and its adherence to government stipulations. He said that an all-round development for its students was of utmost importance. He thanked the dignitaries for choosing Sias to host the Henan Badminton Championships, as it was a validation of Sias' work with regard to sports, and also provided a venue for students from universities from across Henan to meet and exchange ideas.

The Chairman of the Badminton Association of the Henan Students Sports Federation, and Party Secretary of the Zhongyuan University of Technology, Cui Shizhong, delivered a speech and spoke of the Henan Badminton Association. He said that it was comprised of badminton enthusiasts, and since its establishment, it had been actively engaged in the popularization of badminton in Henan. It had also focused on the improvement of the referee training systems and the promotion of badminton on university campuses. He said that the Henan Badminton Championships were the top badminton event in the province, and it was a testament to the development of the sport as the number of participants had increased every year, in turn drawing more and more attention to the sport. He thanked the Sias leadership for hosting the tournament and hoped for an excellent performance from all those involved.

After this, the athletes' representative and referees' representative led their respective groups in an oath. The Chairman of Henan Students Sports Federation, and Party Secretary of the Zhengzhou Light Industry University, Yu Hailuo, then announced the start of the championships.

The closing ceremony was held on July 14. The chief guests included the Secretary-General of the Badminton Association of Henan Students Sports Federation, Zhao Nie, the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Dean of the School of Physical Education, He Zuxin, and Party Secretary, Lang Yadong.

The chief referee, Zhu Jian, announced the list of winners from the different categories of contestants - men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

The top 3 winners in the following categories were:

- Undergraduate Men's Singles, First Division: Zhengzhou University, North China University of Water Resources & Electric Power, Zhongyuan University of Technology.

- Men's Doubles, First Division: Zhengzhou Technology & Business University, Zhengzhou University, and Henan Institute of Technology.

- Undergraduate Women's Singles, First Division: Sias International University, Henan University, Henan University of Economics & Law.

- Women's Doubles, First Division: Zhengzhou University, Henan University, Sias International University.

- Men's Singles, Second Division: Henan Normal University, Shangqiu Normal University, and Physical Education College of Zhengzhou University.

- Women's Singles, Second Division: Henan University, and Physical Education College of Zhengzhou University.

- Mixed Doubles: Shangqiu Normal University, Physical Education College of Zhengzhou University, and Henan University.

The awards were presented by the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, the Dean of the School of Physical Education, He Zuxin, and the General Party Branch Secretary, Lang Yadong. Sias International University won an award for excellence in hosting the championships from the Secretary-General of the Badminton Association of Henan Students Sports Federation, Zhao Nie. The Henan University of Economics & Law, Xinyang Normal University, and the Henan Institute of Engineering won awards for sportsmanship.

Over 500 athletes from over 44 universities from across Henan took part in the 13th Henan Badminton Championships.
