Sias International University held the finals and award ceremony of its 19th Mandarin Debate Competition on April 10. The competition was organized by the Communist Youth League and the Sias Debate Team. Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, and the Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, attended the finals. Also in attendance were members of the Youth League Committee, students from the School of Business and the School of Electronics and Information Engineering - the two schools competing in the finals, and teachers.
The judges of the competition were the coach of the winning team in the Henan Division of the 8th World Mandarin Debate Championships, Jin Chao, a member of the Sias News Center and debate coach, Li Yi, a faculty member of the School of International Cultural Exchange, Cui Yue, and instructors at the Communist Youth League, Zhang Yanping, and Guo Zhenyu.
The elimination rounds had taken place over the past month, with the debate teams from the School of Business and the School of Electronics and Information Engineering reaching the finals. The finals began at 6 p.m., and after the topic was disclosed, a series of arguments and counter-arguments ensued between the two teams. At the end of all the rounds, Jin Chao commented on the spirit, demeanor, and eloquence of the contestants.
It was finally adjudged that the team from the School of Business won the 19th Mandarin Debate Competition, with the team from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering finishing as runners-up. The team from the School of International Education (SIE) won the third prize. The team from the School of Law won the "Spiritual Culture Award". Sun Naisen won the award for the best debater.
