Sias International University held its annual Student-Teacher Forum on November 6. The Forum, held for the academic year 2017-18, aimed at deepening the communication and exchanges between teachers and students. All the leaders of Sias were present at the Forum, including the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, Executive Vice President, Dong Qiming, Vice President, Liu Shuqin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, Sias Proctor, Han Xiaoai, and Assistant Principals, Sun Rujian, and Guo Xuede. Deans and leaders of all the academic schools and departments of Sias were also involved in the Forum. Over 1,000 students and teachers were present at the Student-Teacher Forum.

Before the open session of the Forum began, the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, delivered the opening speech. He said that the dialogue between teachers and students was now a part of the culture of Sias with regard to the transparent democratic running of the university. He said that he hoped that through dialogue, teachers would understand the needs of students and be able to improve the level of education and develop a more advanced system of management, so that the university would continue to be tailored for students, focusing on their academic and personal difficulties.

Students who were not able to attend the Forum were also given the means to express their opinions and ideas through the official Sias micro-blog and live video interactions with the Forum. In the future, feedback on micro-blogs will also be taken into consideration to further understand the needs of students. At the Forum, deans and leaders of academic schools and departments spoke about various issues such as the use of venues on campus, campus security, the pricing of food in cafeterias, study areas in the Library, hot water supply, educational service information, the course selection system, academic reports, and public courses. The Forum remained cordial, with students raising questions and putting forward many suggestions. Students also posted questions and comments on the official Sias micro-blog and official Sias WeChat.

Dr. Shawn Chen thanked the students for their participation in the Forum and said that he appreciated their sincere concerns as well as the face-to-face exchanges between students and teachers. He said that it would help build a permanent platform for communication between students and teachers. He said that the combination of constructive criticism and active participation would help greatly in the strength and development of the university. Problems raised by students both at the Forum and on micro-blogs would be dealt with by the relevant departments, aided by the official Sias micro-blog and official Sias WeChat accounts.
