On the morning of September 18, military training for Sias' freshmen for the academic year 2017-18 concluded at the Track & Field Stadium. The guests at the ceremony included the Chief Academic Advisor for the Honors Academy of the Zhuhai Institute at Beijing Institute of Technology, Guo Shaotang; Co-founder of FITI, CIO of the Wanda Group, Zhu Zhanbei; Co-founder of FITI, US Venturi venture capital partner, Gu Yisi; Co-founder of FITI, Co-founder of Titanium Media and IT Value, Wan Ning; Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Orkhon University in Mongolia, Dashdorj Yagaan; the Founder of the World Academy for the Future of Women, Jerrie Ueberle; and the Head of the 2017 Freshman Military Training Corps, Hu Jiangtao. Sias was represented by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen; Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang; Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun; Executive Vice President, Dong Qiming; Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng; Proctor, Han Xiaoai; and Assistant Principals, Guo Xuede, and Sun Rujian. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, Ding Gongci.
The ceremony began with Dr. Chen Sikun and Hu Jiangtao inspecting the freshmen, followed by a military parade. Over 7,600 freshmen, split into 55 teams and dressed in military uniforms, took part in the parade.
Deputy Party Secretary of Sias, Li Huafeng, delivered a speech and commended the military instructors for their part in the military training of the freshmen. Following this, awards for advanced training were presented by Sias Proctor, Han Xiaoai, and Assistant Principals, Guo Xuede, and Sun Rujian. Li Huafeng presented the awards for excellent instructors, and Executive Vice President, Dong Qiming, and Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, presented the awards for outstanding team performances.
In the closing speech, the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, thanked the instructors for their hard work and congratulated the freshmen on the completion of their military training. He said that he hoped that the students would carry the self-discipline and perseverance that they learned in their military training into their academics, work, and life beyond the university.
