On June 4, Sias International University held the graduation ceremony for the academic year 2016-17 in the Basketball Arena. The chief guests at the commencement ceremony were a delegation from Fort Hays State University, including the incumbent President, Dr. Andy Tompkins; a delegation from the University of Pittsburgh; a delegation of musicians from the University of Arizona; the Vice President of Zhengzhou University, Song Maoping; the Director of Student Affairs at the Nanyang Institute of Technology, Zhao Dongjiang; former CIO of the Sanpower Group, and Vice Dean of the Future of Information Technology Institute (FITI), Wang Yong; former CIO of TCL, and Vice President of FITI, Yuan Maike; and famous artist, Bai Xuelang. Sias was represented by the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen, Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, President, Dr. Chen Sikun, Executive Vice President, Dong Qiming, Vice President, Liu Shuqin, Proctor, Han Xiaoai, Assistant Principals, Sun Rujian and Guo Xuede, and the heads of all departments at Sias. Over 7,100 graduates were present at the 2017 graduation ceremony.
The commencement began with the national anthems of China and the USA. Dr. Shawn Chen introduced the guests and congratulated the graduates of 2017. He said that this was an era of innovation and change. He also spoke of the rise of the Chinese nation, and the role that its citizens had to play in the future. He hoped that the students would remain perseverant through adversity, retain their passion, and continually push their boundaries.
The Vice President of Zhengzhou University, Song Maoping, congratulated all the students and teachers. He hoped that students would "never forget their original intentions" and would pursue their dreams in a responsible and considerate manner.
The President of Fort Hays State University (FHSU), Dr. Andy Tompkins, said that he was proud of the graduating class of 2017. He said that students should remain humble and hardworking in order to succeed in life. Sias Foundation member, and Assistant Provost for Strategic Partnerships at FHSU, Cindy Elliott, delivered a speech on behalf of the Sias Foundation. She congratulated all the graduates and advised the students to be compassionate, helpful, friendly, opportunistic, good listeners, and enjoy their success.
Teachers' Representative, Zhao Yan, encouraged the graduates to continue learning, adapt to society, and use their talents and expertise in order to achieve social and economic progress. This was followed by a speech by Graduate Representative, Niu Lida.
The graduate award ceremony for outstanding graduates was then held with awards presented by Dr. Andy Tompkins, Sun Rujian, Guo Xuede, Liu Shuqin, Han Xiaoai, Dong Qiming, Dr. Chen Sikun, Fei Hexiang, and Dr. Shawn Chen, respectively. Dr. Shawn Chen and Dr. Andy Tompkins also jointly presented scholarship awards for students to pursue their Master's degrees at Fort Hays State University.
The graduation ceremony ended with choral performances of the Anthem of Sias International University and 'My Old Classmate' by the Choir from the School of Music.
