On May 19, the 2017 Henan Architectural Design Competition began in the main auditorium of the new Sias library. The leaders at the ceremony were Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun; Assistant Principal, Guo Xuede; Vice President of the Luoyang Institute of Technology, and Secretary-General of the Henan Province Decoration Industry Vocational Education School Enterprise Cooperation Guidance Committee, Ding Wuxiu; Deputy Inspector of the Henan Province Department of Housing and Urban & Rural Construction's Office of Survey & Design, Li Yujun; Deputy Directory of Henan Province Interior Design Management Office, Zhang Changqing; and the Vice Dean of Henan University's College of Art, Xi Weiquan. Also present were several experts in the fields of Interior Design and Construction from across 18 cities in Henan as well as academics, teachers, and students from related fields. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Directory of Henan Province Interior Design Management Office, Zhang Changqing.

Sias President, Dr. Chen Sikun, delivered the opening speech. He gave a brief introduction of the history, development plan, and goals of Sias. He said that the construction on campus had helped the construction industry in Henan, and was also a major step that deepened cooperation between the university and other enterprises. While adhering to national laws, Sias has always kept up with the times and has been at the forefront of innovation in its design. He hoped that Sias graduates would enter Henan's construction and interior design industry, under the guidance of industry experts and leaders.

After delivering a speech, the Deputy Inspector of the Henan Province Department of Housing and Urban & Rural Construction's Office of Survey & Design, Li Yujun, read out the rules and regulations of the 2017 Henan Architectural Design Competition. The Dean of Sias' School of Art & Design, Liu Xishong, also delivered a speech in which he said that the competition aimed to let a vast number of designers learn from each other, display their talent, and raise the level of their expertise. The competition also provides a platform for regional and local development and increases innovation and entrepreneurship in the industry.

The Vice Dean of Henan University's College of Art, Xi Weiquan, said that the competition would help participants make use of their resources. He hoped that universities in Henan would combine production and research, along with interactive exchanges, thereby pushing students to pursue excellence in architectural design.

Vice President of the Luoyang Institute of Technology, and Secretary-General of the Henan Province Decoration Industry Vocational Education School Enterprise Cooperation Guidance Committee, Ding Wuxiu, said that students should responsibly and passionately pursue the current trend of technological innovation and development so as to raise the bar in the construction industry, increase competition, and actively develop environmentally friendly building models that help enterprises contribute to society.

The Assistant Principal of Sias, Guo Xuede, then formally announced the opening of the 2017 Henan Architectural Design Competition.
