Sias brought in the Lunar New Year with a celebration on January 11. Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, Proctor Han Xiaoai, Assistant Principal, Sun Rujian, and Assistant Principal, Guo Xuede, along with heads of other departments, and local Party and government leaders were present to celebrate the New Year at Sias. The event was presided over by Vice President Liu Shuqin.

The celebrations began with a video, produced by the Sias News Center, that reviewed the activities and events of 2016 with school leaders expressing their thanks and hope for the coming year. Sias Party Secretary, Fei Hexiang, then delivered a speech in which he thanked the members of the faculty for the progress and development of Sias in 2016. He said that the breakthroughs and constructive progress made in 2016 were a sign of the strength of Sias, making the past year a landmark year in Sias' history. He added that there were significant strides made in teaching, education, research, assessment, management, and the nurturing of talent among the students, which would hopefully give everyone at Sias the enthusiasm and perseverance for continued improvements in the coming year.

This was followed by performances by the Sias band, musical performances, folk dances, martial arts performances, and opera solos. There was also a lottery conducted throughout the course of the event for the Sias faculty and staff, capping the festive mood in the packed auditorium.
