Sias Alumni rubs shoulders with world leaders at Boao Forum

April 2, 2015

Members of Sias International University's alumni were among the hosts, and rubbed shoulders with a variety of world leaders and entrepreneurs at the prestigious Boao Forum for Asia, from March 26 and 29, 2015. The Sias alumni who were hosts at the event were praised for their service, bilingual ability, and their ability to execute the planned schedule to perfection.

The Boao Forum for Asia, held on Hainan Island, is an annual event that hosts high-level forums for world leaders from government, business, and academia in Asia and other continents, to share their vision on the most pressing issues in Asia and the world at large. It is modeled on the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland. The keynote speech was delivered by the President of China, Xi Jinping, who attended the opening ceremony as well. He spoke of Asia's need to forge its own path in pursuit of its destiny, especially with regard to economic integration and development.

An Shiqian, who majored in Finance, and graduated from the Sias Business School in 2014, was a team leader at this year's Forum because of her performance at the previous year's Forum. Her presence was requested by the Prime Minister of Singapore, Goh Chok Tong. She was responsible for maintaining schedules including arrivals, meals, and other parts of the daily schedules. Her excellence was even noticed by Bill Gates, the Founder of the Microsoft Corporation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Some of the other guests that An Shiqian hosted were Yasuo Fukuda, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bo'ao Forum for Asia, former French Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Chairman of the Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation, Vincent Siew, Shanghai General Motors President, Wang Yongqing, SABIC (Saudi Basic Industries Corporation) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Yousef Al-Benyan, and Steve Almond, Global CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

This is the second time that Sias students have been hosts at the Boao Forum. During the previous Bo'ao Forum, there were several Sias students who were hosts as well. This is an example of the fruit of Sias' emphasis on the bilingual ability of its students, coupled with its ethos of 'Knowledge meets Practice'.
