Sias Delegation visits Southwest Behavioral Health Services

A delegation from Sias International University, including 6 members of the Academic Affairs Office and 4 student leaders completed training on the theory and skills of university student behavioral health prevention, co-sponsored by the Sias Foundation and Southwest Behavioral Health Services in the U.S.A.


During the 4-week training program, and in combination with their research and expertise, 7 experts from Southwest Behavioral Health Services used open and interactive teaching methods to teach courses to the delegation. Some of the courses were:

- the Theory and Skill of University Student Mental Counseling

- the Theory and Practice of Prevention and Correction of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Internet Addiction

- Good Interpersonal Relationship Establishment and Adjustment

- Effective Identification and Intervention of a Crowd with Major Mental Crises.


Representatives of Sias presented the latest achievements of the students' mental health education and counseling work at Sias and discussed the differences between students of Chinese and American universities, the common issues of mental health education and prevention, training programs, and the next phase of development of the Prevention Center. To enhance the effectiveness of learning methods and to improve the practical ability, the delegation also traveled to a local primary school for a field trip.


The end of the training coincided with the Chinese Lunar New Year. The Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, visited the delegation and celebrated the New Year with them. After the training, a graduation ceremony was held and the President of Southwest Behavioral Health Services,  Jeff Jorde, awarded certificates to the members of the delegation. The delegation also visited Washington D.C., New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Princeton University.


Situated in the Phoenix, Arizona, Southwest Behavioral Health Services is a non-profit mental health service funded by the government. It employs over 700 senior behavioral health experts. In 2010, Southwest Behavioral Health Services and Sias International University jointly established the Psychological Prevention Center at Sias and created a training program at the center that was authenticated by the Board of the National Health Education Consultants.
