2021 Summer Training Conference ends

After 3 days of intense training, Sias University's 2021 Summer Training Conference ended on the 10th of July. The theme of the conference was "Exploring the Future Model and Promoting Educational Reform".

On the morning of the 10th, a Consultant from the Information Construction and Management Office, Li Xia, presented a special report titled, "Enabling the Development of an Intelligent Campus - the Exploration and Practice of an Intelligent Campus at Sias University". She explained the exploration and practice of Sias' intelligent campus construction from four aspects - the general situation of Sias' intelligent campus construction, the contents and objectives of the 14th Five Year Plan, the service provided by the Information Construction and Management Office, and the future development prospects of Sias' intelligent campus. She said that an intelligent campus involved application promotion, data accumulation, business collaboration, and system construction. She said it was an important link in the university's governance system and required the participation and promotion of the entire staff.

The General Manager of the Sias Group (China), Wang Wei, presented a report on deepening reform, optimizing service, and improving quality. The report reviewed and summarized the support work by the Logistics Department during the training conference and analyzed the main problems that the department faced. He explained also listed the specific areas where the Logistics Department needed reform in the coming academic year. He said that during the transition period between academic years, and under the guidance of the 2021-2025 Logistics Reform Plan, the department would work towards achieving its objectives. This included the informatization of service, the modernization of service facilities, the standardization of service products, and the specialization of service teams.

Dr. Shawn Chen presided over 2 fora - "Student-Centered Teaching Practice", and "Student-Centered Management Service Practice". Representatives of teaching and administrative departments had in-depth exchanges during these fora.

In the afternoon, Zheng Min gave a report on performance art at work. She said that the essence of art was to show people truth, goodness, and beauty, and to make those who appreciate it happy. She pointed out that as educators, those present should standardize their image with regard to their appearance and manners. She also said that one should improve their spoken language, control of their emotions, and manner of speaking. She encouraged people to love the Party, the nation, the people, the university, and the students. She stressed the fact that the university is an important platform like the rudder of a ship, the chassis of a car, or the foundation of a building. She said that she hoped that under the guidance of the 2025 Education Reform Plan, the teaching staff would raise their standard and have high aspirations while being selfless and devoted to education.

Ma Jiansheng delivered a speech titled, "Reflections on Party Building and Ideological and Political Work". He reviewed the work of Sias University's Communist Party Committee through the 2020-21 academic year from the aspects of political construction, progress in ideological and political education, opening up new avenues for Party building, the promotion of clean governance, and the recognition of Sias in society. He spoke about the next stage of work from the aspects of improving the understanding of one's position, the importance of Party building and ideological and political work, grasping key points for breakthroughs, paying close attention to the effectiveness of Party building and ideological and political work, clarifying responsibilities, focusing on implementation, and ensuring the high quality of Party building and ideological and political work. He said that Communist Party organizations at all levels of the university should focus on grassroots construction, ideological and political work at the university, responsibilities, innovation in Party building, and the continued promotion of the development of the university.

At the close of the conference, Dr. Shawn Chen delivered a speech. He said that the purpose of the Summer Training Conference is to test the work style of all teaching staff and was an opportunity to begin work for the coming academic year. He spoke about reform at Sias from 3 aspects:

- First, with reform as the main theme, Sias should implement the full credit system, explore future models, and promote the 2025 Education Reform Plan;

- Second, the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation was an important task for the coming 2 years, and all academic and teaching staff should participate in the evaluation;

- Third, the selection of honorary professors and introduction of talent would aid reform, promote the optimization of the staff, and promote the sustainable development of the university.

He said that he hoped that everyone would face the changes in society by pursuing excellence, continually exploring and innovating, and working towards making Sias a university that contributes to future generations.

On the 9th, the President of Henan Agricultural University, Jie Xiaolei, presented a report titled, "The Strategic Breakthrough in the Construction of Applied Universities - the Integration of Industry and Education". The report focused on the practice and exploration of the integration of industry and education and explained how ordinary undergraduate colleges and universities use the integration of industry and education in projects to achieve strategic breakthroughs. Sias Vice President Xu Shengdao spoke about deepening the reform of the residential college system for teaching at Sias. He said that to build a residential college, one should first understand the system. Sias had completed the reform of educational methods in the residential college system. The next step of increased reform required the combination of the needs of students and the rules for talent training, innovation, and breakthroughs. This would make important contributions to the reform of higher education in the New Era. The Director of the Future Education Center at South China Normal University, Jiao Jianli, gave a report titled, "The Silver Lining Behind Dark Clouds - Higher Education in the Post-Pandemic Era". It described how to re-examine and think about the development of higher education in China and the world from a macro perspective.

On the afternoon of the 9th, all the teachers at Sias were involved in a special training program at the Basketball Arena. The training involved a wide range of topics such as classroom interaction in problematic teaching and Sias' problem-solving teaching plans. All the physical education instructors had special training in the Administration Building that focused on the construction of a collaborative education system, the reconstruction of the residential college system, and the value and power of the system. Administrative staff had training on data-driven high-quality development for the university, and document writing and processing. Staff from the Logistics Department were trained on how to improve the logistics service support capacity, reform and implementation, and to optimize service efficiency. In the evening, all departments took part in centralized training and had discussions in groups about what was learned during the day.

On the evening of the 10th, Sias held a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. All the staff at the Summer Training Conference took part in a choral competition that had themes such as patriotic songs and the struggle of people in the New Era.

During the 3-day conference, the entire staff of Sias took part in training sessions that involved discussions based on work objectives. It also focused on diligence and a pragmatic understanding of reform, education, and development of the university.
