On the 7th of September, Sias University held an online enrolment education class to implement the requirements concerning the safe opening of the university for the 2021 Autumn Semester from the Work Committee for Colleges and Universities of the Henan Party Committee, and the Henan Department of Education. Deputy Party Secretary, and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Li Huafeng, presided over the event. The class involved lectures from the Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Acting President, Zhao Yuxin, and a teacher from the School of Marxism, Ban Chao. The leaders integrated Covid-19 prevention and control work into the curriculum and included it in the online educational activity for the majority of the freshmen.
The Founder, and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Shawn Chen, began the class and said that the university had continued to explore and implement advanced educational concepts of "liberal education + holistic education + integrated education" and the dual education system that combines academic schools with residential colleges. With a student-centered policy for a quality education and the introduction of international teachers, and a combination of environmental education, extracurricular activities, and cultural exposure, he said that Sias sought to improve students' abilities in all aspects. He also stressed Sias' loyalty and contributions towards the Communist Party of China. He said that in the future, Sias would continue to explore and innovate for the nurturing of talent that would contribute to the region and the nation.
Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, said that the province of Henan had faced a severe and complex situation due to the unprecedented rainfall on the 20th of July in combination with the existing recent outbreak of Covid-19. The entire province had overcome the ensuing difficulties with Party members showing their dedication and hard work during this period. He commended the teachers and students of Sias for their response to these situations. First, with the scientific assessment and response; second, with the accurate implementation of policies and measures; and third, with their concerted and coordinated efforts. He said that young students should improve their ideological understanding, enhance their awareness, strengthen preventive measures, and build a safe campus.
Acting President, Zhao Yuxin, presented his hopes for the freshmen of the 2021/22 academic year. First, they should aim high and remain steadfast in their ideals. With the university as a starting point in their lives, their ideals would enlighten them and ignite a passion that would enable everyone to move forward when facing difficulties. Second, they should take on responsibilities and be patriotic. The floods and pandemic brought out the best in Sias students through their practical actions. Third, they should prioritize their studies. In today's age of highly developed information technology, education would provide great support. He said that he hoped that students would make use of Sias' resources, nurture a habit of independent learning, and learn to reason and think for themselves.
Finally, according to the notice from the Henan Department of Education concerning the opening up of universities in the province, and to teach ideological and political education at the start of the autumn semester, Ban Chao, a teacher from the School of Marxism, held a live web lecture. The lecture was presented from 3 aspects - the leadership of the General Secretary (Xi Jinping) in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, the spirit of the fight against the pandemic, and the practical measures taken across the country in this regard. He encouraged the freshmen to learn from the natural disasters and grow together in their patriotism.
Through the summer, the people of Henan faced the difficulties brought about by the floods and the outbreak of the pandemic. Sias has used these crises as an opportunity for teaching and educating people, providing students with a rich ideological and political course.
Sias University has scheduled various enrolment education activities for its freshmen from the 7th to the 10th of September. These include an introduction to the double degree programs, professional introductions, safety education, library access, Party membership procedures, and information about the residential colleges, teaching management, student activities, and services.
