On the 28th of April, Prof. Fan Yihong delivered her lecture - "Curriculum Design and Teaching from Understanding Teaching Elements - Change of a Teacher's Role and Exertion of Students' Potential" - and focused on the basic mindset behind curriculum design as well as student-centered teaching methods. The lecture focused on challenges, the theoretical aspects of nurturing innovative talent, and her personal experiences of stimulating students' independent learning. During an on-the-spot Q&A session, teachers discussed the differences between student-centered teaching and traditional teaching methods with regard to teaching design, organization, activities, evaluation, and students' thinking. Prof. Fan stressed the ideal development of teachers and holistic growth of students for all-round growth, intelligence, and maximizing potential. She said that only when teachers realize their own potential can they stimulate students' potential and creativity.
On the 29th, Prof. Fan led over 40 teachers in a workshop titled, "Project-Based Learning Curriculum Design". She shared innovative teaching cases of project-based interdisciplinary team learning from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and project-based interdisciplinary curricula and cooperative learning at the Southwest Jiaotong University. During the workshop exercises, teachers designed complete and operable interdisciplinary curriculum prototypes centered around project-based learning.
