2020/21 First Semester Student Work Conference

Sias University's Student Affairs Office and the General Office of Residential Colleges organized a Student Work Conference for the first semester of the 2020/21 academic year at the Student Activity Center on August 11. Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, and Vice President, Xu Shengdao were present at the conference. The Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, and Executive Vice President of the General Office of the Residential Colleges, Bai Meng, presided over the meeting.


Xu Shengdao pointed out that in the upcoming semester, all the staff should work together for the good of the students as well as the growth of the residential colleges. He put forward 5 requirements:

- First, preparations needed to be made for the beginning of the new semester;

- Second, since the normalization of proceedings after the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic, the military training and entrance education for freshmen should be thorough and adjusted according to governmental requirements;

- Third, all residential colleges should be innovative and precise in their work, and guide students with regard to employment;

- Fourth, cooperative partnerships should be strengthened to work towards improving students' application and passing rate in the CET-4 and CET-6 exams as well as the postgraduate entrance examination;

- Fifth, on the basis of the success of the residential college system, the staff and faculty should work towards optimizing the academic curriculum.


Bai Meng reported on the overall arrangements for the Student Work Conference and put forward the requirements for students in the upcoming semester with regard to ideological and political education, safety, mental health education, academics, and development. Her report also emphasized on the matters that required attention such as new student registration, the return of students, and the employment of graduates. She spoke of the importance of ideology, planning, and the need to pay close attention to students under the normalizing conditions after successful prevention and control of the pandemic. She added that performance evaluations were a necessary part of the completion of tasks with quality.


At the meeting, representatives of the residential colleges at Sias delivered positive reports on the preparations for the start of the 2020/21 academic year, course creation, and the preparations for the CET-4 examination and postgraduate entrance examination.


In the concluding speech, Li Huafeng pointed out the need for academic staff to give importance to innovation in academic courses and their working methods. He said that the Student Affairs Office should be able to judge situations based on their importance and make sure that each department takes responsibility for adhering to the goals, work, order, and brand of the university. He also spoke of the importance of the professional development of the tutor teams and counselors for projects and the maintenance of a high level of professionalism. Students and staff should always work together for the all-round development and benefit of the Communist Party and the people.


After the meeting, it was decided that it was not just a work deployment meeting for the coming semester, but also a mobilization meeting to encourage and motivate the staff.
