On August 18, Prof. Qu Jianwu, a Doctoral Supervisor at Dalian Maritime University, presented a special lecture at Sias University. According to the requirements of the prevention and control of the Coronavirus pandemic, the lecture was broadcast via a live Tencent Conference. Sias Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, attended the meeting along with leaders from the Sias Communist Party Committee, the Students Affairs Office, the General Office of the Residential Colleges, the Party Committee leaders of each residential college, as well as tutors and administrators. The Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, and Executive Vice President of the General Office of the Residential Colleges, Bai Meng, presided over the proceedings.

In his lecture, Qu Jianwu shared his journey from that of an ordinary counselor to the Director of the Student Affairs Department, from the Deputy Party Secretary of the university to the Deputy Director of the Department of Education of the province of Liaoning, and his return to the position of a Counselor. He expressed his view of the importance of being a lifelong student from his 30 years of experience in education. He spoke of his work through the decades through photographs and letters, mentioning visits and grants that helped him aid students through his work as a counselor. He also spoke of the importance of political ideology, modern thinking, and a broad vision for the role of a counselor.

Prof. Qu Jianwu spoke for 2 hours on his pursuit of ideological and political education and his love for students. The leaders present expressed their respect and thanks to Prof. Qu Jianwu for his efforts as a guide for students.

Bai Meng said that Prof. Qu Jianwu's lecture benefited everyone. His love for his students, his dedication to their lives, and his work in the field of education was a good example for those working in similar positions. She encouraged all the staff at Sias to study and understand his career, with an emphasis on education and guiding students.

Prof. Qu Jianwu was the former Deputy Party Secretary of colleges and universities in the province of Liaoning, and former Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Liaoning. In 2013, he quit his leadership positions and returned to his position as a counselor. He is currently a Counselor at Dalian Maritime University and a teacher at their School of Marxism. He has won several national awards - "National Model of Teachers' Ethics"; "National College Counselor of the Year"; "National Excellent Teacher"; "National Model of Honesty & Trustworthiness". He also received the "Model of the Times" Award from the Propaganda Department of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee.
