On August 21, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party Committee, and Vice President of Zhengzhou University, Wu Hongyang, led a delegation from Zhengzhou University on a visit to Sias University. The delegation from Zhengzhou University's Communist Party Committee included members of the Organizational Department, the Propaganda Department, the Study & Work Department, the Communist Youth League, the Cultural & Quality Education Office, the Logistics Management Office, the Infrastructure Department, the Security Office, and the Logistics Group. Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, Vice President, Xu Shengdao, and Sias Vice President and Chairman of the Trade Union, Wu Hua, met with the delegation along with members of the Sias Party Committee Office, the Propaganda Department, the Department of Learning & Work, the Logistics & Infrastructure Department, and the Security Office.
Wu Hongyang and his delegation visited Sias' Cultural Towns, including the French Street, Italian Square, German Street, Spanish Square, London Street, as well as the Student Activity Center, Mingli Residential College, Chinese Garden, School of Foreign Languages, Huanyu Residential College, Library, teaching facilities and student living quarters. After the campus tour, they met with Sias leaders in a meeting at the Library. Li Huafeng presided over the meeting.
Ma Jiansheng welcomed the delegation and spoke of Sias' educational philosophy, Party work, teaching methodologies, education and teaching reform, Sino-foreign cooperation, development of the residential college system, and student associations. He said that the university adhered to the Socialist orientation of running educational institutions and implemented the fundamental tasks of nurturing students with the combination of Chinese and Western culture through holistic education. Over the past 20 years, he said, Sias had achieved remarkable results with the guidance of Zhengzhou University. He also said that Sias would harness its advantages as an international educational institution with unique characteristics for the 14th 5-year plan to prepare for all assessments in the modern university system and to create an international application-oriented high-level private university.
Wu Hongyang said that Sias' prioritization of the work of the Party showed its intent and focus to being run as an international university. He commended the educational philosophy, campus planning, distinct cultural characteristics, architectural style, facilities, and the student-oriented concept. He also said that Sias had incorporated the Party's political work into the discipline and organization of the management structure, as well as the ideological work into the cultural aspects of the university. He said that he hoped that Sias University and Zhengzhou University would continue to strengthen their cooperation and grow together.
Xu Shengdao introduced Sias' residential college system and elaborated on the exploration of the educational system in the residential colleges. He said that this model focused on the goal of nurturing talent for the nation and the Communist Party through morality, intelligence, health, and labor. He said that the growth and development of students was a vital party of education in higher education institutions. Residential colleges at Sias complemented the academic schools and provided students with a collaborative education through the Communist Party Committee, the Communist Youth League, and grass-roots organizations. The goal was to construct a 5-level structure at the university which included the academic schools, residential colleges, educational tutors, student communities, and student dormitories.
The Head of the Propaganda Department and a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party Committee at Zhengzhou University, Li Li, spoke highly of Sias' achievements, construction, development, and facilities. He said that after the detailed inspection the delegation got a deeper understanding of Sias' development concept and residential college system. He said that Zhengzhou University hoped to start its own residential college system tailored for its own development.
The two sides had further discussions and exchanged views on the reform and development of the residential college system and its role in education.
