An inspection team from the Department of Private Higher Education Evaluation at the Henan Department of Education visited Sias University for an inspection on June 8. The inspection team included the Director of the Policy & Regulation Department (Private Higher Education Department) at the Henan Department of Education, Dong Yumin; Inspection Team Leader, from the Zhengzhou University of Technology, Tang Liping; the Chief Staff Member of the Policy & Regulation Department (Private Higher Education Department) at the Henan Department of Education, He Jian; as well as experts from the Zhengzhou University of Technology - Yang Jian, Peng Gang, Zheng Aihong, and Zhang Yuchao.
A meeting on the inspection of the performance of Sias University in 2019 was held on the 10th floor of the Library. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, and Executive President, Wang Jialin, attended the meeting. The heads of departments, academic schools, and residential colleges were also present. Wang Jialin presided over the meeting.
Ma Jiansheng delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Sias. He said that the university was implementing the Communist Party of China's educational policies under Xi Jinping's Socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics, and was guided by the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial (Henan) Department of Education. The conditions and reform of education and teaching were at the core of the implementation of these policies. He said that the inspection was not just received as a review of the university's work, but also as a source of guidance for the future of the university. He said that Sias would take this as an opportunity to raise its standard and level as a private university, innovate its mechanism and educational methods, and make use of its advantages with domestic and international educational resources. He said that a goal was to highlight the characteristics of Sino-foreign cooperation in running an educational institution and make new contributions to the Central Plains of China.
Dr. Shawn Chen said that the university adhered to an educational philosophy that combined Chinese and Western characteristics and provided an international education to its students. He said that Sias the annual inspection was very important for Sias, and it held several meetings and created special working groups to undertake self-inspections to prepare for the annual inspection. He said that he hoped that the experts in the inspection team would put forward suggestions for the development of the university, and help Sias improve its working methods and quality.
Dong Yumin spoke highly of Sias' conditions and facilities. He said that the team aimed to carry out a comprehensive inspection of the university's work and functioning in 2019 and understand and investigate the implementation of the its teaching and management methods. He said that the rapid development of Sias University over the past 20 years was remarkable as it had contributed to the development of private higher education in Henan. He said that he hoped that Sias would make even greater contributions to the development of education in Henan.
The leaders at the meeting watched Sias' official promotional video. Tang Liping briefly introduced the purpose and methods of the inspection process. The inspection was conducted in strict accordance with the guidelines provided by the Henan Department of Education and the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Education for private higher educational institutions in 2019.
Wang Jialin delivered a report on the running of Sias in 2019. The report stated that Sias University implemented the spirit of the 19th Plenary Session of the Communist Party of China under the guidance of Xi Jinping's Socialist ideology with Chinese Characteristics. Sias had taken its 20th anniversary as an opportunity to implement the directives from the National Education Conference through the development of various undertakings on campus. Sias made the core position of the Communist Party's leadership clear through the priority given to ideological and political work. It had also continued to improve the conditions at the university in strict accordance with the national standards, by deepening the training of teachers' ethics and conduct, the adherence to a standardized pattern of running an educational institution and improving it in combination with its unique combination of a liberal education, holistic education, and integrated education. The student management and the emphasis on the safety of students were continually improving through its residential college system.
After the meeting, the inspection team reviewed written materials and organized symposiums with students and teachers to further understand the running of Sias. The inspection team also visited the Sias Library, Huanyu Residential College, School of Foreign Languages, and other places on campus.
