Sias holds 18th Mental Health Education Month

Sias University held its 18th Mental Health Education Month from March 13 to April 10 to help students adjust to the psychological demands of being quarantined for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Mental Health Education Month is held to help spread awareness of the importance of mental health in the university. The activities were held online because of the pandemic.


During the month, the Academic Affairs Office and the Mental Health Education & Consultation Center used the official WeChat accounts (social media) of all the residential colleges at Sias to publish over 60 articles on the importance of mental health as well as mental health and psychological coping methods during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to this, the Mental Health Education & Consultation Center also carried out 8 activities during the pandemic, including the investigation of students' mental health, mental knowledge training, group psychological counseling, a group skills competition, an online mental health knowledge competition, a psychological drama script-writing competition, and a Community Mental Health Conference that targeted 30,000 students of Sias.


According to the statistics, a total of 24,858 students participated in the surveys of the mental health of students during the pandemic.


During the month, a total of 12 psychological knowledge training sessions were held, involving 1,200 teachers and students, which effectively helped the psychology specialists, tutors, committee members, and volunteers engaged in mental health education during the pandemic.


The group skills competition received 23 videos recommended by the residential colleges. Dormitory 502 in the North-7 building of the Boya Residential College won the first prize. The second prize was jointly won by the Dormitory A101 in the West-8 building of Zhiyuan Residential College and the Dormitory 341 in the North-8 building of the Boya Residential College. The third prize was jointly won by the Dormitory 538 in the North-4 building of Boya Residential College, Dormitory 424 in building 7 of Siqi Residential College, and Dormitory A110 in the West building of Zhixing Residential College.


The online Mental Health Knowledge Competition promotes learning through competition and gives access to all 30,788 students at Sias the opportunity to enhance their knowledge of mental health issues during the Covid-19 pandemic. Among them, 104 students won individual awards, with organizational awards going to Mingli Residential College, Huanyu Residential College, and Zhixing Residential College.


In the Psychological Drama Script-Writing Competition, 15 scripts were submitted from the residential colleges. After the review, Boya Residential College won the first prize for "No Regrets in War". The second prize was won by Zhiyuan Residential College for "Heart Maze" and Zhixing Residential College for "Let Youth Shine in the Epidemic". The third prize was awarded to Boya Residential College for "Rising Glow", Zhishan Residential College for "Happiness Under the Haze" and Mingli Residential College for "Most Beautiful Youth in the War".


The Community Mental Health Conference, themed "Emotional Prescription During the Epidemic" involved the training of psychological committee members. After the training, the various committees will organize students from all communities to continue this activity.


The series of activities organized by the Mental Health Education & Consultation Center during the 18th Mental Health Education Month gave an insight into the mental health of students at Sias during the Covid-19 pandemic. It also spread awareness about the importance of mental health during the pandemic as well as playing a positive role in maintaining the mental health of students.
