Sias holds Special Meeting for Management of Students

March 26, 2020

A special meeting for the management of students with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic was held on March 25. Vice President Xu Shengdao attended the meeting that was chaired by the Head of the Student Affairs Office, Chu Jinjin.

Chu Jinjin introduced the requirements of student management in the near future and clarified the division of labor across the university.

Xu Shengdao spoke of his appreciation of the work done by the student management teams since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also affirmed the work done by all levels of the academic schools and residential colleges at Sias toward the prevention and control of the Coronavirus. He put forward 5 requirements on how to manage students under the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

- First, Sias was to strictly prevent and persuade international students from returning without official permission. All residential colleges should implement the directives from superiors to accurately arrange for data about international students on a case-by-case basis.

- Second, all departments should make preparations before students return to the university, by accurately monitoring the health of the students, and formulating detailed plans for the return of students by regions, grades, majors, academies, and batches.

- Third, ideological guidance through online education was very important, as was psychological counseling at this time.

- Fourth, Sias needed to innovate in the recruitment of students. All departments affiliated with recruitment were to use all platforms, particularly social media.

- Fifth, online recruitment of faculty was also to be prioritized through the Employment & Entrepreneurship Department. Departments were to have regular meetings online, provide recruitment information, and provide more employment opportunities and channels for graduates.

The meeting made clear that the focus and direction of the next phase in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic was the management of students, and required all staff to be involved. Staff was to work together to overcome difficulties so that the work would be carried out in an orderly and effective manner.
