Sias University hosted the Opening Ceremony of the Chinese and Korean Poetry Recitation, and the 2nd Henan Reading Festival on October 24. The theme of the festival was "Poetry Recitation and Exchanges between China and South Korea", and famous Korean reciters were invited to showcase their skills along with Chinese reciters. The festival is jointly sponsored by the Henan Recitation Association, Sias University, and the Xuchang Culture, Radio, Television & Tourism Bureau. The goal of the festival is to broaden students' horizons, promote the culture of the Central Plains of China, increase international cultural exchanges, build a multi-language cultural exchange platform, and give a platform to fans of recitation in the Central Plains.
In the afternoon, a meeting on poetry reading in China and South Korea was held in the Sias Library. At the meeting, Professor Guo Junfeng, Chinese and foreign guests held an in-depth discussion on poetry recitation skills, cultural exchanges, and the development of recitation associations in various regions.
The Poetry Recitation Festival opened later that evening. The guests included the Honorary President of the Henan Reading Association, Li Yongping; the President of the Chinese Academy of Culture in Daegu, South Korea, An Jieyu; the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Culture in Daegu, South Korea, Jin Meishu; the President of the North American Poetry Association in Houston, USA, Zhai Yuxi; the Chairman of the Jilin Language & Art Research Association, Sun Chenxu; the Vice Chairman of the Jilin Language & Art Research Association, Han Xiaochun; the Chairman of the Anhui Reading Association, Wang Xingmin; the President of the Inner Mongolia Recitation Association, Sai Na; the Vice President of the Jiangsu Recitation Association, Yuan Fan; the Vice President of Pingdong School in Shenzhen, Zhang Lei; and the former Director of the Editorial Office of the Zhangjiakou TV Station, Zhao Hongjie. Sias was represented by Executive President, Wang Jialin, Prof. Guo Junfeng, and other university leaders. The opening ceremony was attended by over 1,000 teachers and students from Sias.
At the ceremony, Wang Jialin spoke about Sias' unique multi-cultural characteristics and its educational philosophy. He said that this festival was a good platform to provide students with a multicultural vision, experience foreign cultures, and promote understanding and communication. He said that he hoped that the festival would improve the appreciation of poetry and art among teachers and students and Sias, and increase their curiosity about the poetry of different languages and cultures around the world.
Li Yongping spoke about the history and development of the culture of poetry between China and South Korea and said that he hoped to promote friendship between Chinese and South Korean readers through this festival.
An Jieyu spoke of his hope that Chinese and Korean readers and reciters would learn from each other, exchange skills, improve their levels, and promote cultural exchanges and development between China and South Korea.
After an awards ceremony conducted by the Henan Recitation Association, the festival was officially opened. A large number of reciters from China and South Korea performed for the audience.
The festival is a part of Sias University's continued focus on culture combined with modern trends, a patriotic spirit, broad horizons, and exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries.
