Sias' 21st International Culture Week begins

November 5, 2019

The opening ceremony of Sias University's 21st International Culture Week was held on November 4 at Sias' Italian Square. Sias leaders including Executive President, Wang Jialin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, Vice President, Xu Shengdao, were present along with the Secretary-General of the AUAP (Association of Universities of Asia & the Pacific), Prof. Dr. Ricardo Pama, as well as Chinese and foreign guests. The Director of the Office of International Affairs, Yue Junliang, presided over the ceremony.

In a speech, Wang Jialin welcomed the leaders and guests and greeted the teachers and students participating in the activities for International Culture Week. He said that this year's theme was "Prosperous China, Colorful World". The International Culture Week will be held from the 4th to the 9th of November. It is not just an audio-visual feast with music and dance, but will also have food from across the world, showcase distinct traditional cultures, and host a number of high-level academic lectures. All this will be held across the Sias campus so that students will get to experience an international festival without leaving their campus. He said that he hoped that the International Culture Week would give students a broader vision and would inspire them to innovate through exchanges.

Later, Wang Jialin and Prof. Dr. Ricardo Pama officially opened Sias' 21st International Culture Week.

Among the cultural activities on the first day, teachers and students were able to watch a variety of examples of Chinese folk culture and art, portrait painting, calligraphy, gourd pyrography, and a traditional raree-show (la yang pian). Traditional snacks and handicrafts were also on sale at Sias' Italian Square.

The 21st International Culture Week will be held for 6 days, from November 4 to 9, and will include designated days for celebrating the cultures from different regions of the world - China Day, Asia Day, Latin America & Africa Day, Europe Day, and North America & Australia Day. During the International Culture Week, Sias will also host the 4th AUAP Student English Speech Competition, a singing competition, lectures by famous experts and scholars from China and abroad, and a variety of cultural activities.
