The President of the Henan Law Society, Liu Mancang, visited Sias University on November 4. He was accompanied by members of the Henan Law Society including the Party Secretary and Executive Vice President, Li Chengxian, the Director of the Applied Law Research Center, Li Yinghui, the Secretary to the President, Li Chuanxiang, and the Director of the Editorial Department of Citizens and Law, Zhou Xiaowei. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, met with the delegation along with Sias Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Vice President, Wu Hua, and heads of the Sias Party Committee, and the School of Law. The delegation was taken on a campus tour that included Sias' Italian Square, German Street, Spanish Square, London Street, School of Law, CUBA Training Facility, Golf Driving Range, Chinese Garden, and the Sias Museum in the Library.
The visit coincided with the opening ceremony of Sias' 21st International Culture Week. Liu Mancang interacted with students and teachers who were involved with the International Culture Week activities and encouraged them to make full use of the international resources provided by Sias for their personal and professional growth.
After the campus tour, Wu Hua hosted a symposium in the Library. Ma Jiansheng spoke about the educational policies of the Communist Party of China, the directives for running educational institutions, nurturing talent, reform of education and teaching and ideological work. He said that Sias had adhered to all these and had made great progress. He said that under the guidance of Xi Jinping's Socialist Ideology with Chinese characteristics, Sias would continue to implement the policies of the 19th session of the Central Committee. He said those at Sias should use the university's advantages to raise the standard of education.
Dr. Chen spoke about the implementation of a 3-dimensional educational mode - liberal education, holistic education, and integrated education, and a teaching method that integrated knowledge and practice which demonstrated Sias' unique educational philosophy that combined Chinese and Western characteristics. He said that Sias had implemented an international educational curriculum, introduced high-quality resources for teachers, and nurtured students with an international vision through advanced educational resources as well as the residential college system. He said that Sias would continue to promote scientific research to make greater contributions to the internationalization of education in Henan.
The Dean of Sias' School of Law, Song Shidai, spoke about the inner working of the School. He spoke of their integration of Sias' educational philosophy into the curriculum that entailed English proficiency, knowledge, skill, a broad vision, and exemplary behavior. The School of Law focuses not only on theory, but on application-oriented training, with the goal of becoming a renowned Law School not just in Henan, but in all of China. He said that hoped that the School of Law would continue to improve teaching and education so that it would contribute to the development of the university through innovation.
Li Chengxian pointed out that the Law Society is a people's organization under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, as well as a mass organization, and an academic organization. It also played an important role on the political and legal front. In recent years, the Henan Law Society has organized in-depth research, legal exchanges, legal practices, and legal services to contribute to the work of the Communist Party,the country, the legal profession, and the people. At present, it had set up 46 research societies and 3 research centers. They had also organized lectures, jurist meetings, and had invited well-known judges to give lectures. He said that he hoped that Sias University's School of Law would use its resources to cooperate with the Henan Law Society and promote the academic discipline of law.
After listening to the reports and speeches, Liu Mancang spoke of his appreciation of the scale, development, international characteristics, and unique architectural design of Sias University. He said that Sias had a high political standing because of its outstanding work in integrating Chinese and Western educational concepts, and its social influence and contributions. He put forward several suggestions for the future development of the university. First, Sias should develop into a high-level application-oriented university based on its quality. Second, there should be a focus on professional development, the building of the Sias brand, and highlighting its internationalization. Third, Sias should use its advantages, tap its potential, and utilize its resources to focus on the improvement and nurturing of students' practical abilities. Fourth, Sias should continue to improve its management system and give freedom to its domestic and international talent. Fifth, Sias should focus on training management and provide a platform to young teachers for their improvement. He said that the decision of the Communist Party's Central Committee on several major issues concerning upholding and improving the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, promoting the modernization of the national governance system and governance capacity, was adopted at the 4th Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee, and focused on the improvement and development of China's governance system. He said that the rule of law was vital to the promotion of the modernization of the national governance system. With regard to Sias' School of Law, he said that he hoped that it would produce excellent international legal talents for China. He said that the faculty at the School of Law should have an international perspective while popularizing the academic discipline of law. He encouraged them to participate in various academic reports and legal fora to get a broader platform for exchanges and to enhance the influence of law schools. He closed by saying that the integration of theory and practice was important and said that he hoped that Sias' School of Law would become well-known in both Henan and China.
The 4th Henan Youth Forum on the Rule of Law, organized by the Henan Law Society, will be held at Sias University on December 6.
