Sias celebrates Teachers' Day

Sias celebrated the 35th Teachers' Day, by holding a function to show its gratitude to the faculty and staff of the university on the 11th of September. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Executive President, Wang Jialin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, Vice Presidents, Wu Hua and Xu Shengdao, and Prof. Guo Junfeng were all present.


At the start of the function, the Sias leaders and faculty watched a special video for Teachers' Day produced by the Sias News Center. While wishing the teachers at Sias, the video also showcased Sias' East-meets-West educational philosophy, its founding in the Central Plains of China by Dr. Chen, and the ideas behind its unique educational system.


Dr. Chen then thanked all the teachers and staff on behalf of Sias. He said that he hoped that everyone at Sias would uphold the university's motto of "East-meets-West"; Integrating Knowledge with Practice". Dr. Chen then delivered a speech titled, "The Search for Sias' Educational Model". In his speech, he analyzed the three facets of Sias' educational model - liberal education, holistic education, and integrated education, and expounded on the development and meaning of "Integrating Knowledge with Practice". He said that he hoped that Sias would increase its efforts in the innovation of education and teaching, keep up with the times, and continue to nurture practical talent with an international perspective.


Wang Jialin then thanked the teachers for their concerted efforts with regard to teaching, research, and management. He also said that they should encourage one another, seek development and change when necessary, and improve the quality of education, thereby improving the quality of the faculty at Sias.


There were also speeches by Hu Daidi, from the School of Electronics & Information Engineering, Wang Xiaotong, from the School of Law, and student representative, Wang Yujun.


At the awards ceremony for Teachers' Day, Guo Junfeng presented awards to outstanding part-time teachers and winners of the 20th anniversary university logo competition for the 2018/19 academic year. Xu Shengdao presented awards to the outstanding educators of 2018/19, while Wu Hua presented the awards to outstanding teachers. Li Huafeng presented the Teachers' Morality Award, and Wang Jialin presented awards to the best teaching supervisors and the 2019 Teaching Excellence Award. Ma Jiansheng presented the awards for Henan's Excellent Teachers and the 2019 Teaching Skills Competition. Dr. Shawn Chen presented the awards for outstanding educators in 2018/19, and the 2018 Outstanding Educational Management awards of Henan.


In the closing speech, Ma Jiansheng pointed out that the achievements of Sias were due to the efforts, unity, and dedication of the faculty and staff. He said that this year's Teachers' Day coincided with the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and signaled a new era of respect for teachers. He said that he hoped that all those at Sias would maintain strict self-discipline and be diligent in their self-improvement to enhance their abilities and qualities.
