The freshmen of the 2019/20 academic year began their military training at the Sias Track & Field Stadium on September 2. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, Party Secretary, Ma Jiansheng, Executive President, Wang Jialin, Deputy Party Secretary, Li Huafeng, and Vice Presidents, Wu Hua and Xu Shengdao, were present at the ceremony. Leaders of administrative departments, academic schools, and residential colleges were also present.

After the singing of the national anthem of the People's Republic of China by the freshmen, Dr. Shawn Chen delivered a welcoming speech. He thanked the military training instructors for their work and welcomed the freshmen of the 2019/20 academic year. He pointed out that this year was the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He encouraged the freshmen to take the military training seriously and have an attitude that is not afraid to face difficulties and hardships.

Ma Jiansheng then spoke of the importance of military training for freshmen as a part of Chinese law. He said that it was important that all universities implement the educational policies of the Communist Party of China. He also spoke of the importance of discipline, safety, and service. He said that he hoped that the freshmen would maintain high standards in their military training.

The Chief of Staff of the Military Training Corps pointed out the importance of military training as part of the implementation of measures from the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and Xi Jinping's socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics. He said that it was important to create a reserve force and to build discipline among students for their education. He said that he hoped that through military training students would learn to develop their morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and work ethic. The Representative of the Instructors said that all the instructors would work hard towards the successful military training for Sias' freshmen of the 2019/2020 academic year. Freshman Representative, Wang Mengyao, also delivered a speech and said that the freshmen would be disciplined and would train hard.

The annual Opening Ceremony of the Freshman Military Training marks the beginning of a two-week military training for freshmen that will culminate in the Freshman Military Training Parade on September 15.
