Sias Library organizes Lecture on Analects of Confucianism

April 17, 2019

The Sias Library organized a lecture and reading of the Analects of Confucianism on April 16. Prof. Zhang Huaitao was the guest speaker. The Deputy Director of the Library Office, Rong Hongtao, presided over the lecture.

Zhang Huitao interpreted the Analects of Confucianism from five perspectives: Confucius' life, the processes of the completion of the Analects, the main ideas, the reading and learning of the Analects, and the historical influence of the Analects of Confucianism. He used several short stories to illustrate these 5 aspects. During the lecture, he also opened the floor for Q&A sessions to get the audience involved.

The lecture was organized to promote Chinese culture, educate students about Confucianism, promote physical and mental harmony, as well as familial and social responsibilities. The Sias Library has also taken on the responsibility of encouraging students to read classics from Chinese literature and help them apply traditional Chinese wisdom to their studies, work, and life.

Prof. Zhang Huaitao was the former Librarian at Zhongyuan Institute of Technology, a subject leader at Zhengzhou Shengda University of Economics, Business & Management, and the Deputy Director of the Editorial Committee of the Henan Library Science Journal. His work includes 28 publications and 10 edited anthologies.
