Sias Library holds Traditional Classics Exhibition

April 24, 2019

China has a long and profound history, and its culture and traditions are both nuanced and extensive. At the end of September 2017, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Culture & Tourism instructed the National Library of China to publish the first 10 books of the "100 Classics of Chinese Traditional Culture".

The books were selected by the famous scholar and Curator of the Central Research Institute of Culture & History, Yuan Hangpei. He selected the 100 classics that were most representative of Chinese traditional culture and presented their ideas in plain language. Ranging from the pre-Qin Dynasty period to the 1911 Revolution, the selection of books shows the diversity of Chinese culture and includes classics in the fields of philosophy, literature, history, art, science, and technology.

The first 10 books are:

- The Book of Changes (Zhou Yi)

- The Book of Documents (Shang Shu)

- The Book of Songs (Shi Jing)

- Analects of Confucius (Lun Yu)

- Mencius (Meng Zi)

- Lao Tzu (Lao Zi)

- Chuang Tzu (Zhuang Zi/Zhuang Zhou)

- The Writings of Master Guan (Guan Zi)

- Sun Tzu's Art of War (Sun Zi Bing Fa)

- Records of the Historian (Shi Ji)

Through the exhibition, the Sias Library has attempted to show the significance of the "100 Classics of Chinese Traditional Culture" and enhance people's appreciation of the classics, their cultural consciousness, and their national pride.

The exhibition will be open from April 11 to May 11, on the 3rd floor of the Sias Library.
