On March 30 and 31, Sias University held a Forum on Elderly and Hospice Care in China in the lecture hall of the administration building. The Forum was jointly sponsored by the Professional Committee of Elderly and Hospice Care of the Chinese Association for Life Care and Sias University.
The purpose of the Forum was to provide a platform for experts to exchange academic opinions, research results, and experience, promote exchanges and cooperation among academic institutions and promote the development of geriatric care in China. The chief guests were the Vice President of the Chinese Association for Life Care, and Professor at Tianjin Medical University, Shi Baoxin, the Secretary-General of the Chinese Association for Life Care, Li Huairong, and Sias Executive President, Wang Jialin. A total of 134 experts from across 15 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions attended the meeting.
In his speech, Shi Baoxin pointed out the importance of hospice care and healthy aging to cope with an aging society, which was receiving more and more attention across China. He said that he hoped that experts and scholars would promote exchanges and cooperation for the development of nursing through the Forum.
The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, sent his wishes from the United States and thanked the members of the Professional Committee of Elderly and Hospice Care of the Chinese Association for Life Care for their support and trust. He said that Sias would use the opportunity to promote the development of nursing education in the university.
Wang Jialin welcomed the experts and pointed out that Sias was introducing high-quality resources for medical sciences, nursing, the humanities, and the social sciences according to the needs of society. He said that he hoped that the Forum would contribute positively to elderly care, hospice care, and nursing education in China.
Following the introductory speeches, there were discussions led by the Dean of the Nursing College at the Second Military Medical University (People's Liberation Army Naval Medical University), Luo Yu, the Director of the Center for Hospice Care at Tianjin Medical University, Shi Baoxin, the Vice President of the Nursing College of the Hebei University of Chinese Medicine, Bai Jianying, the Vice Dean of the Nursing College of North Sichuan Medical College, Long Lin, and the Deputy Party Secretary of the Nursing College of Guangxi Medical University, Liu Guiying, who presided over the seminar.
The Director of the Nursing Department of the 5th Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University in Zhuhai, Prof. Deng Renli, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Clinical Practice of Pre-established Medical Greeting Plans". He spoke about cultural and legal differences in China and abroad, as well as the problems of implementing ACP in China. Prof. Shi Baoxin, Prof. Cheng Yu, and President Long Yuehua, then discussed Prof. Deng Renli's report in depth. The Executive Vice President of the 9th People's Hospital of Zhengzhou City, Dr. Li Ling, also delivered a speech on how to provide Hospice Care.
The Assistant Dean of the Beijing Geriatric Hospital, Dr. Song Yuetao, delivered a speech on the current situation and network of Elderly Health Services. The Senior Editor of the Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing, Li Huimin, delivered a special report from the perspective of elderly nursing care. The Senior Scholar of Rehabilitation Nursing at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr. Jing Shuzhen, delivered a special lecture entitled, "New Concepts and New Technology of Rehabilitation Nursing for the Elderly in Hong Kong".
After the Forum, the Director of Sias' 20th Anniversary Office, Qin Nan, spoke about Sias' history, development, educational philosophy, and residential college system. She also invited the guests and experts to attend Sias' 20th Anniversary Celebrations in May.
In his summary, Shi Baoxin pointed out that the Forum had set up an academic platform for experts in the fields of Hospice Care, Medical Care, and Geriatric Nursing. He thanked those present for presenting their academic achievements, sharing their experience, and contributing to the development of elderly and hospice care in China.
