Sias University held a two-day training workshop for new employees (who joined Sias in 2019) on March 2 and 3. The goal is to help new employees adapt to the working environment, integrate into the Sias culture, and get them involved in the preparations for the upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations. The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen, was present, as was Sias President, Chen Sikun, and Vice President, Wu Hua. The training was held in the lecture hall of the Administration Building.
The Director of the Human Resources Department, Sun Minghao, introduced the training arrangements and categories. The attending leaders and new employees were then shown the official Sias promotional video.
Vice President, Wu Hua, then delivered a mobilization report. He emphasized the importance of employee training and spoke of his personal experiences while both studying and working at Sias. He also gave a detailed introduction to the history, culture, management, and institutional model of Sias, and the necessary skills required to work and integrate into the Sias workforce.
Dr. Shawn Chen then welcomed the new employees to Sias and said that he hoped that Sias would be able to provide them with the resources and platforms for mutual progress.
In his presentation, he put forward 3 instructions:
- Employees at Sias should work towards a common goal, which includes common ideals, work ethic, social responsibilities, and integration into the Sias culture.
- Recognition of one's role at Sias to be an excellent educator and teacher, and also to instill the right values in students
- Innovation in teaching ideas and methods, and adaptation to the current trends of development in social reform.
Sias President, Chen Sikun, then gave a special lecture. He said that teachers should pursue morality as their first priority. He emphasized the role of morality in teaching and spoke of the analysis presented at the recent national working conference on education. He also stressed the importance of ethics, training, and social responsibilities.
Prof. Li Kejing from the Zhongyuan University of Technology gave a special lecture titled, "The foundation of good is in teaching, while the foundation of teaching is in teachers." She said that virtue lay at the core of education. She spoke about the importance of teachers in society, their responsibility to the nation and the people, and their loyalty to the Communist Party. She also spoke about self-improvement, respect for students, and the influence that teachers' actions have on students.
The Director of the 20th Anniversary Office, Qin Nan, spoke in detail about the work being carried out for the 20th anniversary celebrations at Sias, as well as the activities, and requirements from staff. The Director of the Logistics Department, Li Xianmin, spoke about the infrastructure of Sias, the campus and its continuing development, the design ideas, and the construction on campus. The Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, Chu Jinjin, spoke about the internationalized education at Sias as well as the residential college system. The Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs, Yue Junliang, spoke about Sias' international development and the future plans and strategy for growth in the areas of international cooperation and development.
Dong Suge, a teacher at the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, shared teaching methods, in-class and after-class work, and encouraged teachers to try to stimulate the interest of their students by preparing their lessons comprehensively before class. The Vice Dean of the School of Business, Wang Yanpeng, spoke about how to improve one's scientific research and shared ideas and methods for young teachers to follow so as to do well in their scientific research and profession. Li Bin, a teacher at the School of Marxism, shared from his experience of how to publish research. Prof. Xue Shujuan, from the Academic Affairs Department, introduced the main teaching goals and requirements for the coming semester, including the required levels of professionalism and implementation of the curriculum.
Prof. Shi Li of Henan University Of Economics And Law gave a special lecture. She said that she believes that there is a change in the role of university teachers from lecturers to leaders. Speaking from her years of experience, she spoke of the importance of the first lesson, how to completely prepare for it, and the goals of the first lesson.
Prof. Zhao Fujun from the School of Literature spoke about teacher-assisted training, centering on the writing and practice of preparing academic papers. He said that academic papers should be accurate, concise in language, clearly thought out, and objective. Prof. Zhang Xiaoxin from the School of Business spoke about how to create a harmonious work environment. He also spoke about different methods and aspects of effective communication, including the requirements, principles, subjects, and skills needed. The Deputy Director of the Supervision & Audit Department, Liu Minghua, spoke of the importance of integrity at Sias and gave examples of the violation of discipline or rules at colleges and universities. Wang Bingju, a teacher at the Information Technology Management Center, conducted a training session on office software application, including basic operations and the use of the Sias office system. Prof. Chen Yamin from the School of Foreign Languages, shared her experiences and achievements in her 10 years at Sias University.
Prof. Zhang Jianhua of Zhengzhou University gave a special lecture on how to improve executive power in one's work. He spoke of the importance of organizational execution and the methods in which to improve one's organization and core competitiveness.
Vice President Wu Hua pointed out that the training was important for new employees to understand Sias, and get familiar with the Sias culture. He said that he hoped that new employees would join with older employees and pursue their goals together, and improve the management and development of Sias.
The two-day training program had a number of special reports and lectures, as well as introductions to the management and teaching at Sias. New employees introduced themselves and were also involved in group discussions and team-building exercises to give them an understanding of the Sias work culture.
