Sias International University held its 16th Mental Health Education Week from October 15 to 21. During the week, Sias' Psychological Health Education & Counseling Center held a series of educational activities to promote awareness of mental health issues. Each of the Residential Colleges at Sias had posters and boards with mental health educational material. The Psychological Health Education & Counseling Center created 10 posters and distributed more than 10,000 brochures to teachers and students.
Students were taught about Autism through educational videos. They were also taught about psychoanalysis, the impact of childhood experiences, and psychological effects on people.
Professor Ge Cao, from the Zhengzhou University Psychology Department, spoke about the importance of Self Awareness and Mental Health of University Students. Professor Zhang Wenmei delivered a lecture titled, "My Future is Not a Dream". The lectures were designed to especially help freshmen understand themselves and senior students to hone their abilities and critical thinking. Professor Kong Derong, the Deputy Dean of the Zhengzhou 8th People's Hospital, spoke about psychological training and the importance of good mental health among university students. Beginning with the common psychological problems of students, Prof. Kong addressed tutors and dormitory administrators to help them identify psychological problems among students by combing theory with actual case studies and helping students with coping skills.
The Psychological Health Education & Counseling Center invited 12 counselors and psychiatrists from different universities and mental health institutions in Henan to speak to students one-on-one and answer various questions about psychological problems. Over 1,000 teachers and students participated in the counseling exercises. In addition to this, ice-breaking activities were organized by the Association of Psychological Volunteers for the purpose of team-building. Visiting experts visited the Psychological Health Education & Counseling Center and were shown the different methods used to help students. The Residential Colleges at Sias also conducted group counseling activities and classes on mental health to help students shed their inhibitions and understand the importance of good mental health.
The Psychological Health Education & Counseling Center at Sias held activities for teachers and students throughout the week to improve the knowledge of mental health, increase the awareness of addressing psychological problems, and generally improve the level of mental health among university students.
